Bladder drainage. Prices, reviews, ratings
General information
Often drainage occurs using catheterization or the imposition of a cystostomy, which is brought out onto the anterior abdominal wall.
Procedure procedures
Preparation
Before performing bladder drainage, it is necessary to perform:
- biochemical blood test with coagulation test;
- urine analysis;
- treatment of drainage instruments with antiseptic agents;
- shaving hair in the groin area.
Drainage process
Bladder drainage can be performed in two ways:
- Catheterization. This procedure is performed using a flexible catheter, which is inserted into the bladder through the urethra. The end of the catheter is lubricated with petroleum jelly for better passage and to prevent injury to the tissues of the urethra. One end of the catheter is inserted into the bladder and the other is secured in a urine collection bag.
- Cystostomy. Performed under general anesthesia. Certain procedures on the genitourinary system may require inserting a drainage tube (cystostomy) into the bladder. A perforated film is glued to the beginning of the abdominal suprapubic area. Then, a puncture is made in the central part of the film in the abdominal wall using a trocar with a plastic cannula. Then the cannula is removed and the cystostomy is inserted through this instrument. The tube is secured to the abdomen and led out into a urine collection bag.
Rehabilitation period
The catheter or cystostomy is removed from the bladder after the patient has recovered from the operation. After removing the drainage, you should not engage in heavy physical labor for two weeks.
In the first weeks after freeing the bladder from the catheter, you must be careful about possible hypothermia, as a relapse of the disease may occur.
Indications
This procedure is performed in the following cases:
- violation of the natural outflow of urine from the bladder;
- the need to remove urine for diagnostic and surgical procedures;
- rinsing the bladder when it is infected;
- urinary incontinence in women and men;
- damage to the bladder as a result of various injuries.
Contraindications
Bladder drainage should not be performed in case of:
- serious diseases of the kidneys and other organs of the urinary system;
- impaired kidney function;
- allergic reaction to medications.
Complications
The following complications may occur after bladder drainage:
- damage to organs or tissues as a result of erroneous manipulations by the doctor;
- infection;
- blood poisoning (extremely rare);
- cystitis.
