Male Cystoscopy. Prices, Reviews, Ratings
General information
Usually, examination of the genitourinary system is performed using ultrasound. However, this procedure cannot detect bladder injuries, the presence of stones in the urinary tract, polyps and ulcers on the urethral mucosa. Therefore, in some cases, men may be prescribed cystoscopy for a more detailed examination.
Cystoscopy in men can be performed not only for diagnostic purposes, but also for surgical treatment of the urinary system.
Procedure
Preparation
Before the procedure, the following preparation steps must be completed:
- urine test;
- blood test for coagulation and the presence of bacteria;
- X-ray of the urethra;
- treatment of the cystoscope with antibacterial agents;
- shaving the groin area (to prevent hair from getting into the urethra during the procedure);
- if cystoscopy is used for a surgical intervention involving hair loss some amount of blood, then five days before the procedure, the use of blood thinning medications is limited.
The process of cystoscopy in men
The process of cystoscopy begins with general or local anesthesia. First, the patient is placed on his back, and with local anesthesia, 10 ml of novocaine is injected into the urethra. Then a special clamp is applied to the head of the penis for ten minutes. Then they begin to insert a cystoscope, which can be either flexible or rigid (metal). Since cystoscopy is much more difficult for men than for women, the cystoscope is inserted longer and more slowly so as not to damage the urethra. At the end of the cystoscope there is a special LED (for lighting) and a video camera (for transmitting images).
Rehabilitation period
If the cystoscopy process was performed under local anesthesia, the patient can go home immediately after the procedure. If general anesthesia was used, the patient must stay in the hospital for several hours. If after cystoscopy there is blood in the urine, you should immediately contact your doctor.
