Contact ureterolithotripsy is a surgical procedure designed to remove stones from the ureter using endoscopic devices.

General information

This procedure involves the possible installation of a stent after it, which connects the bladder to the kidney. This procedure also includes cystoscopy and radiography of all urinary organs.

The process of the operation

Preparation

Before the operation, the doctor must conduct the following tests:

  • clinical blood test;
  • study of the reaction of bacteria to the action of antibiotics;
  • creatinine clearance;
  • blood clotting test;
  • response of the heart muscle to anesthesia;
If active bacterial growth or the presence of an infection is detected during the urine test, then the patient is prescribed antibiotics, which he must take for a week before the operation.

If obstruction of the urinary tract was detected, then additional drainage is performed kidneys, by inserting a stent or performing a puncture nephrostomy also a few days before the operation.

The process of contact ureterolithotripsy

The operation begins with the anesthesiologist administering general anesthesia, as a result of which the patient falls asleep and does not feel anything during the operation. Next, after the body's reaction to the drugs has been studied, as well as for the presence of allergies, an antibacterial substance is introduced into the body. A special device with a camera and a light guide at the end is inserted through the urethra and then the ureter. Next, a flexible tube is inserted from the side of the stone along the ureter directly into the kidney. The stone is crushed into smaller fractions using a laser or a mechanical probe. Then, using special forceps, small fragments of the stone are removed from the ureter. At the end of the operation, a catheter for urine drainage and a ureteral stent are installed.

Rehabilitation period

As a rule, the catheter is removed within three days. Then, an X-ray of the urinary system is performed. After the patient begins to urinate normally on his own and has no complications, he is sent home.

Indications

This surgical intervention can be prescribed when:

  • the size of the stone in the ureter is over 1.5 centimeters;
  • there is sharp pain in the ureter that does not go away after the administration of analgesics;
  • it is impossible to remove the stone without surgery.

Contraindications

Contact ureterolithotripsy has certain contraindications that the patient should know. These may be:

  • blood clotting disorder, which was revealed during the examination;
  • the presence of a pacemaker, heart failure;
  • pregnancy;
  • disease of one or both kidneys;

The following possible complications may occur after contact ureterolithotripsy:

  • kidney damage or infection introduced during surgery;
