Medicinal electrophoresis is a procedure that involves the sequential or simultaneous action of galvanic current on the human body. The manipulation is carried out using a specific drug. The method of treatment with electrophoresis was discovered in 1807 by Dr. Reis. It is based on the fact that the ions of the drug, under the influence of electric current, penetrate into the subcutaneous tissue and from there spread throughout the body with the bloodstream.

Drug electrophoresis

Electrophoresis stimulates:

  • trophic function of the nervous system;
  • regulatory function of the nervous system;
  • the same functions endocrine system;
  • accelerates lymph and blood flow;
  • activates regeneration processes.

Electrophoresis of medicinal substances

Today, medicine offers a variety of medicinal preparations and devices for treating various diseases. But proven and reliable electrophoresis has a number of undeniable advantages:

  • during the procedure, a small amount of medicine enters the patient's body, while having a much more effective effect than the traditional oral or injection method;
  • active components accumulate in cells and tissues, which means the procedure has a prolonged effect;
  • medicines enter the body in the form of ions;
  • the concentration of drugs in the sore spot is high, while they are present in minimal quantities in the blood and lymph;
  • the manipulation itself does not cause any discomfort to the patient.

Galvanization and drug electrophoresis

All methods by which electrophoresis is carried out have been tested and have found only positive responses from patients and doctors. A certain type of procedure is selected depending on the type of disease and the purpose of the therapy. All solutions are prepared with distilled water, the concentration of the active substance should not exceed 5%.

The main methods of electrophoresis are as follows:

  • Prolonged. In this case, an electric current of low strength is used, while the effect on the body is long in time. The course of procedures can be from 20 to 30. This type of exposure has a calming effect on the nervous system and relieves pain.
  • Labile. One electrode is fixed on the patient's body, and the second is moved 3-5 centimeters per second along the body. Manipulation activates metabolic processes, blood flow, muscle tone.
  • Intra-tissue. Involves administering medication subcutaneously or intramuscularly using electrophoresis.

In neurology, the following are used:

  • Vacuum electrophoresis. This technique allows the medication to penetrate as deeply as possible.
  • Microelectrophoresis. Used for hypertension, insomnia, and nervous system disorders.
  • Electrophonophoresis. The combined effect of electrophoresis and ultrasound waves.

There are only three methods of electrophoresis:

  • Bath. The electrodes are placed in a container with a solution and the patient's body is immersed in it.
  • Intra-tissue. The patient swallows the medication or it is administered intravenously and the electrodes are applied to the sore spot.
  • Cavity. Used for gynecological or rectal diseases. A drug is injected into the patient's body, one electrode is placed inside the diseased organ, the other is attached to the outside.

The effectiveness of the procedure is influenced by a number of factors:

  • the intensity of the disease itself;
  • the location of the pathology;
  • the duration of treatment;
  • the age category of the patient;
  • the strength of the electric current;
  • the drug used.

In each individual case, during the treatment, the doctor can adjust the prescription.

Methods of drug electrophoresis

This manipulation is prescribed in combination with therapeutic treatment of various diseases. We can list only a few diseases for which electrophoresis is indicated, in fact there are many more:

  • Respiratory diseases.
  • Ear, throat and nose pathologies.
  • Gastrointestinal diseases.
  • Gynecological diseases.
  • Urinary tract pathologies.
  • Problems of the nervous system.
  • Neuroses.
  • Diseases of the musculoskeletal system.
  • Endocrine pathologies.
  • Skin diseases.
  • Dental diseases.

There are no drug treatments in the world that can be useful for everyone without exception. Medicinal electrophoresis also has a number of limitations for use:

  • The presence of any kind of neoplasms.
  • Heart and kidney failure.
  • Any progressive inflammatory process in the body.
  • Severe form of bronchitis or asthma.
  • Problems with blood clotting.
  • Serious skin diseases.
  • Anemia.
  • The presence of open wounds.
  • Allergic reactions to the prescribed drug.

In case of gynecological problems, the procedure cannot be performed during menstruation.

In any of the listed cases, the doctor considers the problem on an individual basis in order.
