Galvanization procedure: indications
Galvanic current exposure is used to treat many diseases, the most common cases are:
- PNS and brain lesions;
- Infections and inflammatory processes in the joints;
- Trophic disorders caused by microcirculation and hemodynamic disorders;
- Initial form of atherosclerosis and arterial hypertension;
- Migraine;
- Gastrointestinal diseases;
- Neurasthenia, neurotic conditions;
- Arterial hypotension;
- Angina pectoris;
- Certain diseases of the ENT organs and eye.
However, like any physiotherapeutic treatment, galvanization has certain contraindications. These include:
- Systemic blood diseases;
- Individual intolerance;
- Severe atherosclerosis;
- Pregnancy;
- Infections accompanied by elevated body temperature;
- Skin damage;
- Malignant tumors;
- Purulent and inflammatory processes in acute form;
- Fever.
Galvanization and electrophoresis: differences
Both methods are therapy using galvanic current, which affects pathological foci and biologically active zones. The difference between them is that with electrophoresis, treatment is supplemented with medicinal substances. Due to the non-invasive method of administering drugs, they are directly delivered to the problem area, bypassing the gastrointestinal tract.
Galvanization
The procedure involves the use of electrodes made of lead or tin foil. They are attached to a special device, after which gauze or a fabric pad soaked in warm water is applied on top.
Before connecting the electrodes, the areas of the skin on which they will be located are inspected. There should be no damage, irritation or rash on them.
During the procedure, medical personnel carefully monitor the device readings so that the current does not exceed the specified value and the patient does not experience pain. Mild twitching, vibrations and "goosebumps" on the body are considered normal. If a person feels a burning sensation and pain, the device is gradually turned off, and then the procedure is continued with less intensity.
Galvanization is carried out in a course, and the number of sessions is prescribed by the doctor based on the individual indicators of the patient. After 5 procedures, a chronic disease may worsen, and the symptoms may intensify. However, this is quite normal and indicates a positive course of therapy.
Galvanization methods
- General
With this type of exposure to galvanic current, the electrode is placed between the person's shoulder blades and connected to the pole of the device. At the same time, electrodes are also attached to the calf muscles, but they are connected to the other pole. As a result, the entire body is exposed to the current at once.
- Local
This type of galvanization affects specific areas of the body. Each method has its own name and features. Among the common types:
- Bergonier mask - galvanization in the face area, which is performed using three-bladed electrodes. It can be double-sided or single-sided.
- Galvanic collar - with this method, one electrode is attached to the forearms and upper back, and the other to the lower back.
- Galvanic belt - the electrodes are located in the lumbar region and on the front of the thighs.
- Hydroelectric baths - can be general or local. In most cases, 4-chamber foot and arm baths are used, each section of which is filled with fresh water and equipped with 2 electrodes.

The device is used to conduct galvanization and electrophoresis sessions in medical institutions.
