Thyroglobulin test. Prices, reviews, ratings
General information
Thyroglobulin is a glycoprotein, a protein that is part of the colloid of thyroid follicles and performs the function of a propeptide in the synthesis of thyroid hormones. The level of this protein can be determined by three main factors:
- the total mass of thyroid tissue;
- the presence of damage or inflammation of this organ;
- the number of stimulating effects on the receptors of thyroid-stimulating hormone in the thyroid gland.
Procedure
Preparation
The study must be carried out before a thyroid biopsy or scanning techniques. Blood is given on an empty stomach, during the day it is worth refraining from heavy physical activity. 6 weeks before the scheduled session, you should stop taking iodine-containing drugs and hormone replacement therapy.
Thyroglobulin test procedure
The doctor takes a blood sample from a vein.
Indications
The procedure is indicated for newborns with:
- high ATTG levels in the mother.
Adults with:
- differential diagnosis of hypothyroidism;
- chronic thyroiditis;
- goiter and diffuse toxic goiter;
- dense swelling of the shins.
Decoding the analysis
Reference values: < 60 ng/ml.
An increase in the level indicates chronic and autoimmune thyroiditis, hyperthyroidism, thyroid cancer, Graves' disease.
A decrease in the level occurs due to hyperfunction of the thyroid gland, developing due to an overdose of hormones.
To obtain a complete picture of the state of the endocrine system, T3, T4 studies and tests for other hormones are additionally prescribed.
Prices and clinics
The study is always carried out by a qualified endocrinologist in a hospital or clinic. The price of a blood test for thyroglobulin can be easily found on the medical website .
