This type of folds, according to the classification created by E. B. Laputina, is of the following types:

  • Gap fold - this type is characterized by a pronounced skin groove, which is formed against the background of changes in subcutaneous tissues with age.
  • Stroke fold - this type of fold is a linear and thin superficial wrinkle, which is not characterized by the development of depression of subcutaneous tissues.
  • Nasolabial gradient fold - this type is formed with a significant difference in the height of the cheek and upper lip.

Causes

The following reasons lead to the development of this aesthetic defect:

  • increased emotionality of a person;
  • frequent smiles;
  • mobile facial expressions;
  • increased articulation;
  • optimistic outlook on life;
  • decreased skin elasticity;
  • age-related changes;
  • natural aging of the skin;
  • the influence of gravity, which leads to the formation of most wrinkles on the face;
  • use of a large amount of cosmetics;
  • lack of necessary facial skin care after 30 years;
  • hormonal imbalance;
  • metabolic disorders;
  • disorders during plastic surgery;
  • complications after plastic surgery;
  • ptosis of soft tissues;
  • anatomical features of the face and skin;
  • decrease tone of facial muscles;
  • spasm of muscle muscles;
  • presence of unhealthy habits (alcoholism, smoking);
  • heredity;
  • malocclusion, which was not corrected in time.

Symptoms

The formation of nasolabial folds in the muscular layer occurs quite early (approximately in adolescence). But their manifestation occurs much later, when the elasticity of the skin begins to decrease, and age-related changes begin to develop in the skin itself.

The appearance of this defect occurs with a spasm and a decrease in the tone of the alar part of the nasal muscle, as well as with hypertonicity of the muscle that raises the upper lip and the wing of the nose.

A fold in the corner of the mouth develops with a spasm of the triangular muscle.

Since these folds are a purely aesthetic defect, they do not lead to a violation of human health.

The clinical picture that develops when this defect occurs:

  • the appearance of deep wrinkles in place of folds;
  • the corners of the mouth decrease;
  • flews may appear;
  • they add extra age to a person;
  • the face becomes tired;
  • possible development of a double chin;
  • formation of a network of wrinkles in this area.

Along with cosmetic defects, as with other aesthetic disorders, mental disorders may occur:

  • decreased self-esteem;
  • depression;
  • psychosis;
  • possible development of isolation;
  • detachment;
  • decreased social activity;
  • dissatisfaction with life appears;
  • aggressiveness may appear.

Psychological disorders are more typical for women than for men.

Nasolabial folds are finally formed by the age of 35.

Diagnostics

These wrinkles appear after 35 years, and many people do not seek advice from specialists. When this defect forms, you should make an appointment with a cosmetologist. A consultation with a plastic surgeon is also needed. The diagnosis is made based on the initial examination. In this case, there is no need for additional diagnostic tests.

Treatment

Treatment of this cosmetic defect consists only in correction. It should be remembered that the earlier the correction is carried out, the better and more lasting the result will be. The type of correction depends on the shape of the fold.

The following methods are used for correction:

  • Correction is performed using contour plastics with high-density fillers (for gap folds).
  • A method of contour plastics using preparations that contain hyaluronic acid. This method is based on high biological compatibility with human tissues (no rejection occurs and allergies do not develop).
  • Correction with filler preparations (injected into the skin). They restore tissue volume.

Prevention

For preventive purposes of this defect, the following should be performed:

  • mesotherapy (introduction of collagen and elastin into the mesoderm);
  • massage;
  • correction of malocclusion;
  • use of only high-quality creams;
  • proper skin care.
