Mycoplasma – a cell wall-less urogenital bacterium causing mycoplasmosis, an infectious inflammatory condition.
General Information
The test diagnoses sexually transmitted infections by examining blood samples for antibodies to the pathogen. Antibodies are immune system components designed to neutralize foreign proteins – antigens, here, mycoplasma.
Mycoplasmosis is a chronic sexually transmitted disease affecting the urogenital system. Pathogens are conditionally pathogenic or fully pathogenic. Conditionally pathogenic antigens act effectively only with reduced immunity, while fully pathogenic ones can cause harm even without a favorable environment.
Besides IgG antibodies, IgA and IgM exist, each with specific roles. IgG production starts 15-20 days post-infection, persisting long-term, with titers rising upon reinfection.
Symptoms include clear or yellowish urethral discharge, discomfort during urination and intercourse. In complications, infected women experience intermenstrual bleeding and abdominal/lower back pain; men report scrotal and rectal pain.
The infection poses serious risks; untreated, it may lead to infertility.
