Bladder stone removal is a surgical procedure that involves crushing or removing salt or calcified stones.

General information

Bladder stones are removed using various surgical methods depending on the size and location of the stone. Such surgical methods are:

  • ureterorenoscopic lithotripsy;
  • percutaneous nephrolithotripsy;
  • extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy.

Symptoms of bladder stones:

  • sharp pain in the abdominal area;
  • pain when urinating;
  • difficulty urinating;
  • pressure on the bladder.

If any of the symptoms are detected, you must immediately contact the urology department.

The formation of bladder stones is a common problem of the urinary tract. Before the removal of stones from the bladder, the doctor will prescribe the necessary examination with tests, during which the method of surgical treatment will be determined.

Procedure

Preparation

First of all, a clinical examination of urine and blood is carried out. A blood test can show the degree of coagulation, as well as the content of red blood cells and white blood cells. A bacteriological analysis of urine allows you to see the presence or absence of infection. This method of research also helps to determine the need to prescribe antibacterial drugs before surgery.

The process of removing stones from the bladder

Surgical removal of one or more stones from the bladder can be of the following types:

  • URSL. Uretero-renoscopy lithotripsy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure during which stones are crushed using an endoscope. This device is inserted through the urethra directly to the stone. The surgery itself is performed under local anesthesia. After the stones are crushed, small fractions are removed using forceps or naturally with the removal of urine.
  • PNLT. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, which means that the patient will be asleep during the surgery. Percutaneous nephrolithotripsy is performed using an endoscope. First, a contrast agent is introduced into the urethra, and then an endoscope. Next, the size of the stone and its location are determined. If the stone is small, it is removed without crushing. If the stone is large, it is crushed first.
  • ESWL. The use of extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy is necessary for crushing stones. The "remnants" are excreted naturally. To perform this operation, a special device (lithotripter) is used, which crushes the stones with the help of electromagnetic waves. Then, the patient is usually prescribed diuretics so that the remaining stones come out with urine.

Rehabilitation period

The recovery period after the operation lasts one to two days. However, discharge from the clinic occurs only after urine tests confirm the complete absence of stones in the bladder.

Indications and contraindications

Indications for this procedure are:

  • acute urinary retention in the patient;
  • obstruction of the bladder by a stone.

Contraindications

Removal of stones is contraindicated:

  • during pregnancy;
  • if the patient has poor blood clotting;
  • with anatomical defects of the kidneys and organs of the urinary system.

Complications

The patient does not experience complications after crushing stones.
