Treatment of urethritis is a set of measures aimed at ridding the patient of a urogenital tract infection caused by various pathogens. Urethritis occurs both under the guise of an infectious disease and a non-infectious disease. This is explained by the fact that different factors are involved in the process. In any case, treatment should be carried out exclusively by professional doctors according to a clear scheme.

Urethritis: treatment

The causes of urethritis can be be:

  • disturbance of the urethral mucosa by a microorganism that causes gonorrhea;
  • penetration of the pathogen through the urethra by household means - in public baths, toilets, etc.;
  • trauma to the urethra;
  • by penetration of microorganisms through medical instruments during examination;
  • allergic reactions to drugs (extremely rare).

To make a correct diagnosis, it is necessary to take an analysis of purulent discharge from the patient's biomaterial. There are three ways to do this, but not all of them are painless:

  • With the help of medications that provoke the release of pus from the urethra.
  • By exposing the urethra to elevated temperatures, which causes discharge.
  • By irritating the urethra with a medical object.

Urethritis can be diagnosed:

  • Bacterioscopy. This involves taking a smear and examining it under a microscope.
  • Bacteriology. By placing the biomaterial in a nutrient medium for the growth of pathogenic microorganisms and determining their presence and quantity.

Urethritis: symptoms and treatment

Before prescribing treatment, the doctor requires the patient to undergo a series of tests:

  • pass urine;
  • undergo allergy tests.

After identifying the pathogen, the doctor conducts an antibiogram, which allows determining the reaction of the microorganism to certain groups of antibiotics. At the first stage, patients are prescribed penicillin group drugs. They immediately act on microorganisms, but may not help 100%. Then other drugs are prescribed, which include:

  • amoxiclav;
  • oflokacin;
  • ceftriaxone, etc.

In addition, the patient will be prescribed a bladder and urethra wash with a special antiseptic drug.

It should be noted that you cannot take antibiotics without a doctor's prescription, because when diagnosing, they will distort the picture of the disease and the diagnosis will be made incorrectly.

Urethritis in women: symptoms and treatment

One of the very first manifestations of urethritis is pain when urinating. You should see a doctor when this symptom appears. The likelihood that the inflammation will spread to neighboring organs is high, so ignoring the discomfort is undesirable. The next manifestation is purulent discharge from the urethra. Sometimes swelling and redness of the external opening of the urethra are possible.

Urethritis in men: symptoms and treatment

Most often, this is an inflammation of the entire urethra. Then the symptoms are very similar to those that appear with prostatitis. If the disease is not treated, the symptoms may disappear after some time, but unpleasant complications will follow.

The disease in the acute stage is determined by the presence of severe pain and burning during urination. The labia in women and the head of the penis in men are painted bright red, swelling occurs. Pus is abundantly released from the urethra.

After the acute stage has passed, the next stage may occur, in which the special pain symptoms disappear, there are no abundant purulent discharges in the urine, but threads of pus appear.

If urethritis is not treated in a timely manner, it can transform into a chronic disease. In this case, patients notice manifestations of a neurotic nature, minor discharge from the urethra. The pathology resumes after hypothermia or alcohol consumption.

Treatment of urethritis in women

The opinion that urethritis is a purely male disease is erroneous. This pathology often occurs in women. But the disease is much easier, because the length of the female urethra is shorter. If you do not notice the symptoms in time and do not consult a doctor, the disease can become chronic.

If a woman does not treat urethritis in time, it develops into cystitis. Here, the symptoms are also similar, because there is a frequent urge to urinate. Causes of urethritis in women:

  • sexually transmitted infections;
  • general hypothermia;
  • improper diet;
  • gynecological diseases;
  • improper medical procedures;
  • radiation;
  • formation of stones in the genitourinary system.

Another major complication after urethritis is pyelonephritis.

Treatment of urethritis in women is as follows:

  • relieves inflammation of the urethral canal;
  • restores normal vaginal microflora;
  • restores immunity.

Treatment of urethritis in men

Many men confuse urethritis with prostatitis due to the similarity of symptoms. Therefore, self-diagnosis and self-medication should not be done under any circumstances. Moreover, you should not take medications without a doctor's prescription. If the patient has an irregular sex life, it is necessary to contact a venereologist, in the case where the partner is alone and there were no casual contacts - to a urologist. The principle of treating urethritis in men is not much different from that in women. The same medications and methods are used.

There is no rehabilitation period after treatment of urethritis. The patient can resume sexual activity, but it is necessary to ensure that the body does not freeze. Contraindications to treatment include allergic reactions to different groups of antibiotics, impaired renal function. After treatment, side effects are possible in the form of narrowing of the urethra and neoplasms on the testicles in men.
