General information
You can often hear the expression "ligament sprain" - it reflects an erroneous idea about the nature of the disorder. In fact, connective tissue bands are not capable of stretching, pain occurs due to transverse separation of a certain number of fibers in them.
If the injury occurred with a complete rupture or if the connecting tissues were torn off at the point of attachment to the bone structures, then we are talking about the most severe degree of pathology, which may require the attention of a surgeon. Ligament surgery is often prescribed for injuries of the intertibiofibular, knee and patellar connective structures.
Process
The intertibiofibular bands connect the tibia and fibula of the skeleton in the distal part of the leg. Violation of the integrity of these connective fibers usually occurs when the foot is turned inward, when the ankle is turned outward.
For first and second degree ruptures, painkillers are prescribed and treatment procedures are carried out. At the third level of severity, a plaster cast is applied to the limb, covering the area from the fingers to the hip. If these methods do not help, the patient is sent to the operating room.
The surgeon makes an incision above the ankles. Holes are drilled in the bones, a bolt is inserted there to pull them together, and everything is fastened with a nut. A plaster boot is put on the injured leg for one and a half months.

Open intervention
A Textor incision is made on the knee, the joint is opened layer by layer. The damaged ligament is sewn to its original location with a suture that passes through the bone. Sometimes it may be necessary to replace the torn organic tissue with an artificial substitute, such as lavsan. After this, the wound is sutured.
Arthroscopy
To perform manipulations in the knee area, three small incisions are made: to insert the arthroscope and small surgical instruments. The image from the arthroscope camera is transmitted to the monitor screen, and the surgeon can control the actions being performed. This technique is less traumatic and allows to significantly shorten the rehabilitation period.
In case of complete disruption of the integrity of the lateral knee connecting structures in the early stages, they are sutured. If necessary, the connecting formations are strengthened with elements of the nearby muscle. If it is not possible to suture the damaged structure, endoprosthetics with lavsan thread or other similar materials are used. After such interventions, immobilization of the damaged area is necessary.
Indications
