General information

There are traumatic and pathological fractures. The former are the result of a fall or the impact of some external force, while the latter are associated with the occurrence of internal deviations from the norm.

Depending on whether the skin was damaged, fractures of the skeletal components are divided into open and closed. In open fractures, the fragments come out, such deviations from the norm are always considered initially infected. This should be taken into account at the pre-hospital stage.

Bone structure continuity disorders can be complete and incomplete. In complete cases, the entire plate breaks, while in incomplete cases, contact remains in some areas.

Process

In case of a closed injury, a splint is applied to the victim at the prehospital stage. It should fix two joints - above and below the injury, with the exception of shoulder and hip injuries. Treatment of a shoulder fracture involves fixation of the shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints. In the case of a hip fracture, treatment begins with fixation of the hip, knee, and ankle joints. A soft cloth is placed under the hard fixing material so that it does not press. If there is no material for applying a splint, the affected arm is bandaged to the body, and the injured leg is bandaged to the healthy leg. If the integrity of the ribs is violated, it is necessary to tightly bandage the chest to limit displacement during breathing. If you suspect that the skull and spine are injured, it is better not to touch the victim and wait for the doctors to arrive.

The exit of fragments to the outside is dangerous because they cause bleeding, so first you need to stop the bleeding and apply a clean bandage, and then begin to fix the site of injury. The patient must be urgently taken to a medical facility.

At the medical facility, the patient is given an anesthetic, an X-ray is taken, and they begin to compare the bone fragments. Restoration can be carried out in a closed form and in an open form - in the operating room. Sometimes, in complex cases, the fracture sites are connected using metal plates (the procedure is called osteosynthesis).

After the manipulations to reduce the fracture, plaster casts are applied in the hospital.

Healing usually takes from three weeks to a couple of months. The cast will be removed only when the doctor sees on the X-ray that the dysfunction has been eliminated.

After removing the bandage, the patient is prescribed therapeutic massage, gymnastics or physiotherapy.

Indications

Indications for performing manipulations on fusion are the results of an X-ray examination.

At the preclinical stage, the traumatic condition can manifest itself through the following symptoms:

• deformation;
• severe pain;
• limitation of movement.

Contraindications

After eliminating the main problem, the following adverse effects may occur consequences:

• swelling;
• incorrect bone fusion;
• pseudoarthrosis;
• arthrosis;
• contractures;
• sensitivity to weather, etc.
