General information

- right, which moves horizontally;
- stationary left.
These quadrangles consist of 2 intersecting mirror plates placed at an angle to the axis of the eyes, and a millimeter scale. In each quadrangle (in the upper corner) there is a small semicircular recess. With the help of this recess, the device is easily fixed. In addition, the specialist takes into account the initial distance between the ends of the orbit - this is necessary in order to conduct exophthalmometry in dynamics.
It is believed that the eyeball in normal protrusion reaches a size of 14-20 mm, and the asymmetry does not exceed 2 mm. If there is no exophthalmometer, then the protrusion of the eyeball can be measured with an ordinary ruler. The doctor places it perpendicular to the edge of the eye, and the patient turns his head in profile. The protrusion is determined by the division (it is located at the level of the top of the cornea).

Process of exophthalmometry
It should be taken into account that this examination of the visual organs is carried out only in a bright room. The patient will need to sit opposite the light and look ahead, and the ophthalmologist, meanwhile, moves apart the quadrangles so that they can be placed with their notches against the outer walls of the eyes. The top of the cornea will be visible on the lower mirrors of all quadrangles, and the scale of the ruler on the upper ones, by which the specialist counts the distance from the top of the cornea to the eye socket. Having learned the difference in the protrusion of the cornea of each eye, the ophthalmologist determines the level of exophthalmos.
Rehabilitation period
Exophthalmometry does not impose any restrictions on activity. After the procedure, the patient can continue his/her working day without any restrictions.
