Paravertebral block. Prices, reviews, ratings
General information
Paravertebral block is a drug-based method for quickly eliminating pain caused by stenosis in the spinal canal or irritation of the nerve roots. The technique of paravertebral (near-vertebral) blockade involves the introduction of a certain medicinal mixture using a syringe into the affected area (where the pain is maximum) of the epidural space or near the exit of the nerve root from the spine. As a result of the introduction of a dose of drugs, the medicine quickly gets to the required area, reduces swelling around the affected nerve root, which helps to improve its nutrition./p>
This manipulation is carried out in a certain segment of the spine, which covers the area of the skin, muscles, bones and connective tissue. Due to this, the positive effect is noticeable after the first injection. The most common type of paravertebral block is the cervical and lumbosacral block.
This technique can be used to block the ganglion of the border sympathetic trunk.
Depending on the method of administration, this procedure can be of the following types:
- subcutaneous;
- intradermal;
- muscular;
- perineural;
- radicular.
The drugs administered using a syringe and a thin needle are determined by the doctor on an individual basis. The following drugs and their various combinations are most often used for injections:
- steroid drugs (dexamethasone, cortisone);
- analgesic substance (lidocaine, novocaine);
- B vitamins.
Procedure
Preparation
This manipulation does not require any special additional preparation.
Paravertebral block procedure
Before the start of the session, the area of manipulation must be anesthetized. To do this, the patient lies on his stomach, and the doctor palpates the skin in order to identify the area with maximum pain. Then the selected area for injection is treated with antiseptic drugs (a solution of iodine and ethyl alcohol is often used). After this, anesthesia is administered - using a thin needle, several injections are made to the left and right of the selected segment of the spine, in the area where the pain is localized. Then the specialist injects the drugs.
Rehabilitation period
After the session, bed rest is prescribed, during which the patient should lie on the healthy side for the first three hours.
Indications and contraindications
Indications for this manipulation are the following pathological conditions and diseases:
- radiculitis, osteochondrosis, lumbago;
- neuralgia, protrusion, myositis;
- intervertebral hernias, pinched peripheral nerves;
- chronic pain syndromes;
- spinal injuries.
Contraindications
Not recommended for:
- acute infectious diseases, skin diseases;
- renal, hepatic and cardiovascular failure;
- diseases of the central nervous system;
- epilepsy, low blood pressure;
- pregnancy.
The main contraindication to this type of blockade is individual intolerance to the drugs used in injections.
Complications
With a correctly performed injection and selection of administered drugs, the risk of complications and side effects is minimal. Sometimes a slight discomfort may be felt at the site of the skin puncture.
If the dose is chosen incorrectly, the following complications may develop: allergic reactions of varying degrees, damage to nerves and blood vessels during the puncture, inflammatory reactions in the form of edema.
Prices and clinics
Paravertebral block should be performed only by highly qualified neurologists and neurosurgeons in a specially designed office. The office must be sterile and equipped with all the necessary equipment. This medical service is provided in specialized medical institutions. You can find out more detailed information about the service on the medical portal .
