Evoked potentials. Prices, reviews, ratings
General information
The study of evoked potentials helps to identify problems of a neuro-peripheral nature in children and adults. Early detection of specific or non-specific pathologies allows for effective treatment and prevention.
This technique is actively used for monitoring during resection and spinal surgeries. In general, this is a fairly new technology. Despite this, it has managed to gain favor in neurology. The accuracy of the conclusion when making a diagnosis gives a chance to choose the right direction in eliminating pathologies.
The average duration of a session is from 45 minutes to an hour.
The experiment is completely safe, non-invasive and does not provoke discomfort.
Procedure
Preparation
Preparation comes down to these simple rules. It is necessary:
- to wash your hair without using cosmetics (conditioners, oils, balms or hairsprays);
- to avoid drinking caffeinated beverages and products (tea, coffee, chocolate);
- to wear clean, loose clothing, do not pin up your hair;
- to not apply makeup or perfume;
- to refuse to take medications (subject to agreement with your doctor).
It is also advisable to take glasses or lenses if you have eye problems.
Evoked potential procedure
Evoked visual potentials are recorded thanks to the responses of the visual cortex to stimulation from a flash of light or a reversal pattern. The structure of the pathways through the retina in the direction of the occipital cortex is assessed.
Auditory types are remembered by the impulse indicators along the central-peripheral section of the auditory analyzer. Sensory types are remembered by the sensitive channel and the responses of the spinal cord and brain.
The recording equipment saves the database, which is used to decipher the graphical representation. It shows latency, amplitude, positive or negative dynamics. At first, the primary values of potentials are assessed and only then the secondary type. Even MRI does not provide such advantages. In some cases, magnetoencephalography is used to create registers.
First, the doctor asks the patient to sit or lie down, then relax. Several electrodes are installed in the scalp with a special gel, which are connected to the devices. Changing black and white cells, located in a checkerboard pattern, appear on the screens. The client should look at them as instructed by the specialist.
If it is necessary to catch a click or a slight tingling in the lower or upper limbs, a command will also be given. For this purpose, special devices are attached to the legs and arms.
Rehabilitation period
After electrotherapy, the patient can go home and do their usual daily activities.
Indications
Evoked potentials, the diagnosis of which does not take much time, help to identify:
- plexopathy and radiculopathy;
- retrobulbar neuritis, ischemic neuropathy;
- retrochiasmal lesions, multiple sclerosis;
- acoustic deviations, cerebellopontine angle, speech and hearing.
Diagnostics are also carried out to detect diabetic polyneuropathy.
Contraindications
It is not recommended for people suffering from epilepsy, frequent fainting and seizures.
Complications
There are no consequences.
Prices and clinics
The evoked potential technique is performed by a qualified neurologist in a clinic or neurological center. You can find out the cost of the service on the portal .
