Speleotherapy is one of the non-drug methods of physiotherapy, in which treatment is carried out in the microclimate of salt mines or in specially adapted rooms.

General information

The main therapeutic factor in the procedure is a finely dispersed salt aerosol, the particle size of which does not exceed 0.4 microns. The result of the therapy is the normalization of local defense mechanisms, regulation of the respiratory microflora, improvement of sputum removal and stabilization of the general condition of the patient.

Speleotherapy is currently recognized as a highly effective non-drug therapy for allergic diseases of the respiratory system of various etiologies.

Procedure

Preparation

The specialist conducts an initial examination. The number of sessions is determined by the physiotherapist.

Speleotherapy

During the session, patients are in a specially equipped salt mine or room for a certain time, inhaling air enriched with salt aerosol. During the procedure, you can walk or do special breathing exercises.

Rehabilitation period

There is no recovery period.

Indications

Speleotherapy is indicated for the following pathologies

  • silicosis;
  • bronchial asthma, recurrent bronchitis
  • vasomotor and allergic retinopathies;
  • chronic pharyngitis;
  • acute and chronic otitis;
  • atopic dermatitis;
  • psoriasis;
  • seborrhea;
  • pustular lesions skin;
  • acne;
  • eczema;
  • smoker's cough;

The technique is also used for preventive purposes in case of frequent acute respiratory viral infections, chronic diseases of the upper respiratory tract, bronchitis, pneumonia, hay fever.

Contraindications

It is not recommended to carry out therapy in the following cases:

  • infectious diseases of the respiratory system, which are accompanied by intoxication and fever;
  • severe exacerbations of pathologies of the bronchial-pulmonary system;
  • cough with separation of sputum with blood;
  • previous tuberculosis or pulmonary emphysema, with residual functional changes;
  • diffuse pneumosclerosis;
  • persistent hypertension;
  • chronic pulmonary insufficiency;
  • acute or chronic kidney pathologies.

Complications

If all contraindications have been taken into account, the risk of complications is minimal.
