There are three layers of hair:

  • outer;
  • middle;
  • inner.

The middle layer (cortex) occupies approximately 80-90% of the total volume of hair. The total thickness depends on the development of the body of this layer.

By thickness criterion, there are:

  • thick (the highest diameter, durable, difficult to chemically manipulate);
  • normal;
  • medium;
  • thin (sensitive to any influences and impacts).

Causes

The causes of thinning can be heredity, endocrine disorders, age, nervous, unfavorable endogenous and exogenous factors, strong psychological shocks.

The structure tends to change depending on the frequency and intensity of heat treatment, temperature changes in the room.

Thinning can be a consequence of hypothermia, abuse of chemical curling and coloring, use of a hot air stream when drying with a hair dryer, heat treatment with a curling iron or flat iron, ultraviolet radiation, unbalanced diet, vitamin deficiency, gastrointestinal diseases, diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, hormonal dysfunction, chronic fatigue, excessive cigarette and alcohol consumption.

An extreme diet with a large weight loss in a short period of time can also provoke the occurrence of pathology. A similar problem often occurs as a result of an individual reaction to medications (birth control pills; drugs for hypertension, depression, arthritis).

In the postpartum period, a woman may experience thinning hair, which is associated with a natural decrease in the level of the hormone estrogen.

Symptoms

Symptoms do not require special diagnostics. "Liquid", lacking volume, brittle, often electrified hair.

Diagnostics

For diagnostics and treatment, you should make an appointment with a trichologist or dermatologist.

Computer diagnostics of hair is prescribed. If symptomatic therapy is ineffective, a comprehensive examination of the body is prescribed to identify the source of thinning, determine sex hormones and thyroid hormones in the blood, as well as trace elements.

Treatment

If the cause of the pathology is a genetic predisposition, to identify the causes and options for its elimination, you can visit any medical institution where there are appropriate practicing specialists. There is a possibility that not all hair follicles have undergone proper development and some of them are in a "dormant" state. In this case, they can be activated.

If the hair begins to sharply decrease in diameter, a consultation with a trichologist is necessary.

Effective methods include laser treatment, mesotherapy, and ozone therapy for hair. If the thyroid gland or other glands are underactive, it is necessary to correct the hormone levels in the blood.

General tonics are prescribed: a vitamin and mineral complex, an optimal diet is individually selected (enrichment of the diet with proteins, vitamins, amino acids) and medical cosmetics. Professional massage with the use of tonics is very effective.

Prevention

You should wear a hat in cold weather. You should not dry your hair with a hot stream of a hair dryer. It is important to rationally select specialized cosmetic products - shampoo, conditioner, masks that do not dry out. Periodic massage of the scalp will help to increase blood circulation and improve the nutrition of the bulbs.

It is necessary to adhere to a balanced diet. It is periodically recommended to open the pores with deep cleansing products. It is not recommended to wash your hair every day.
