There are the following types of noses, based on ethnic characteristics, in which the presence of a hump is possible:
- Classical or "Greek" - this type is characterized by a straight and thin nose with narrow wings.
- "Negroid" - characterized by the presence of the so-called "fleshyness" and wide nostrils.
- "Mongoloid" - characterized by small size and flattening.
- "Roman" - characterized by medium length, the nose is quite thin. In this case, the hump is a feature and is often clearly expressed.
- “Caucasian” – characterized by a strong protrusion of all elements that form a certain profile of the face and a drooping base. In most cases, the hump is clearly visible.
A hump can be:
- congenital – is hereditary and is defined as a racial or national feature;
- acquired – arose during a person’s life due to a number of reasons.
The following surfaces are distinguished in the shape of the nose:
- back or frontal surface;
- side walls;
- base or horizontal surface.
The sizes of a nose with a hump can be:
- long;
- short;
- narrow;
- wide.
Causes
Causes that lead to distortion of the contour of the nose:
- heredity;
- various facial injuries in this area, which were received as a result of a car accident, plane crash, fall from a height, impact with a heavy object;
- various mechanical injuries;
- nationality (a humped nose is a distinctive feature of Caucasians, Asians, some European peoples);
- race (more typical for the white race);
- narrow nose (in most cases);
- tumor formation.
Symptoms
The shape of the nose is formed by the frontal bone processes of the maxillary bones, and also nasal bones. The hump on the nose is formed from bone-cartilaginous tissue. Additional sesamoid cartilages participate in its formation. The hump protrudes above the surface of the nose, which leads to a violation of the correctness of its contour. As a result, an aesthetic defect occurs, which can lead to a significant distortion of the appearance of the face.
This cosmetic defect is not dangerous to human health, since it does not affect the breathing process.
In the case of a narrow nose, the hump maintains the throughput of the narrowed nasal passages. It increases the vertical size.
Humps on the nose are characterized by the following symptoms:
- distortion of the nasal contour;
- visual disruption of the shape of this element of the face;
- formation of an elevation above the nasal bridge;
- the presence of a protruding nasal element;
- violation of the aesthetics of the profile of the human face.
In addition to the development of a cosmetic defect, it is possible to develop disorders on the part of the human psyche:
- a feeling of awkwardness arises;
- the development of an inferiority complex is possible;
- low self-esteem;
- a reverent attitude towards one's appearance;
- sometimes depression and psychosis;
- difficulty communicating with the opposite sex;
- a person's social activity decreases;
- withdrawal may develop;
- excessive dissatisfaction with oneself (especially if the cause of the defect was an injury to this area);
- possible manifestation of aggression when focusing attention on this cosmetic deviation.
Diagnostics
If you have this aesthetic defect, you must make an appointment with a cosmetologist. If you are ready to remove the hump on your nose, a consultation with a plastic surgeon is necessary. This defect is diagnosed during the initial examination by a specialist and does not require any additional research.
If the hump has formed without any apparent reason, it is possible to consult an oncologist who will prescribe additional research to identify possible oncology.
Treatment
Treatment of the hump is carried out only if the patient wants to get rid of it. Today, there are two ways to remove it:
- Rhinoplasty (is a surgical method).
- Contour plastic surgery of the nose, which is performed using injectable fillers. This method excludes surgical intervention.
Rhinoplasty is not performed in the case of a narrow nose, since the operation can lead to a violation of the respiratory function. Also contraindications for the procedure are diabetes mellitus, various heart pathologies, bronchial asthma, various mental disorders, and allergies to medications. When performing this operation, doctors take into account the age, gender, individual structural features, and the personal wishes of the patient.
Prevention
There are no preventive measures for a congenital hump. To reduce the risk of developing this defect during life, it is necessary to avoid facial trauma.
