Ultrasound of the prostate gland (prostate). Prices, reviews, ratings
Prostate ultrasound: how it's done
There are two types of sensor access to the organ: abdominal (through the skin of the abdominal area) and rectal (through the rectum). Depending on the access, the preparation processes differ. During an abdominal examination, the patient is in a lying position, a gel is applied to the skin of the abdomen, and a special sensor is used to scan and display the image on the monitor. During a rectal examination, the sensor is inserted into the rectum, while the patient lies in the fetal position (on his side, with his legs tucked up to his stomach).
Ultrasound of the prostate and bladder
This method of examination is prescribed for problems with urination, pain in the lower abdomen, sexual dysfunction, the presence of blood in the urine or sperm. It is quite informative and absolutely safe. A comprehensive examination of the prostate and urinary tract makes it possible to make the most accurate diagnosis and determine the presence of an inflammatory process, stones and cysts in these structures.
Prostate ultrasound: indications
It is recommended to do a prostate ultrasound if the following is observed:
- difficulty urinating;
- pain in the sacrum and perineum;
- a feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder after a visit to the toilet;
- problems with potency;
- suspected infertility.
Contraindications
The abdominal method is impossible if the patient has purulent skin lesions or burns of the abdominal wall on the place of application of the sound-conducting gel. Rectal access is contraindicated in case of severe pathologies of the rectum: fistulas, obstruction, trauma, postoperative wounds and other injuries.
Preparation for prostate ultrasound in men
With the transabdominal form of examination, it is necessary to drink about a liter of water before the session until the bladder is completely full. With the transrectal form, three days before the examination, you should avoid products that activate flatulence, which can lead to constipation or diarrhea. In the morning on the day of the procedure, it is recommended to cleanse the intestines with an enema. If the ultrasound of the prostate gland is scheduled for the morning, the last meal should take place before 19:00 the previous day.
