Ultrasound of the bladder is an informative diagnostic test that allows identifying a number of diseases of the genitourinary system. This type of examination is accessible and safe, often prescribed to both men and women. Moreover, at any age and state of the body - small children and elderly people, pregnant women and patients after surgery. The procedure takes about a quarter of an hour. When examining the prostate, a repeat examination is possible to determine the residual volume of urine in the patient after visiting the toilet.

Ultrasound of the bladder in women

For women, this examination is performed both transvaginally and transabdominally. Sometimes, the transabdominal method also examines the abdominal organs. Ultrasound of the bladder in women helps to study the nature and location of tumors, as well as to detect inflammatory processes. The safety of this procedure allows it to be prescribed even to pregnant women, but only abdominally, so as not to violate the integrity of the placenta.

Ultrasound of the bladder in men

Men are prescribed ultrasound diagnostics on a full bladder. Here, both the prostate gland and the bladder itself are perfectly visualized. In most cases, diagnostics are carried out transabdominally. Ultrasound of the bladder makes it possible to see the presence of tumors, their size and location.

Ultrasound of the kidneys and bladder

A comprehensive study of the kidneys and bladder is quite common, since these organs directly depend on mutual functionality. Therefore, during the examination, the attending physician, using an ultrasound machine, examines in detail both the bladder and the kidneys. During ultrasound of the kidneys and bladder, it is possible to detect renal pathology, pyelonephritis, glomerulonephritis, inflammation of the ureters and urinary tract.

The transvaginal method is not used if the patient has an allergy to latex, during pregnancy after the 12th week, in the presence of the hymen.

Ultrasound of the bladder: preparation

Immediately before the examination (one and a half to two hours), you must drink water and not go to the toilet, and before the procedure, a diuretic is given to speed up the formation of urine. If transrectal access is implemented, a cleansing enema is used.
