There are two main types of research:
- Echography is used to detect stones and tumors, changes in topography, and assess pathological processes in the parenchyma organ;
- Dopplerography is used to examine the vascular system and the direction of blood flow.
Alternative research methods are often required to make a reliable diagnosis.
Ultrasound of the kidneys and bladder
This type of comprehensive examination can be prescribed by a urologist or nephrologist if the patient complains of pain, traumatic injuries, laboratory changes in urine. This diagnostics is carried out in several positions: standing, sitting, lying down, and on the side. The method makes it possible to assess the functionality of these structures, the presence of pathologies and inflammatory processes.
Ultrasound of the abdominal cavity and kidneys
Some diseases do not show symptoms in any way, so specialists have difficulty making an accurate diagnosis. In such cases, it is necessary to examine the entire abdominal cavity + kidneys. This area is visualized quite well and allows the attending physician to detect pathologies.
Ultrasound of the kidneys: Indications
The main reasons for this procedure are the following symptoms:
- hypertension;
- various forms of swelling: swelling of the extremities and peripheral parts of the body, puffy face, pasty eyelids;
- pain in the lumbar region;
- difficulty and pain when urinating.
Contraindications
Since the abdominal type of access (through the skin) is used, there are no special contraindications to the study. It is not recommended to conduct ultrasound diagnostics if there are burns or purulent wounds at the site of application of the sound-conducting gel.
Preparation for ultrasound of the kidneys
3 days before the diagnostics, you must avoid foods that increase peristalsis activity: sweets, potatoes, milk, bread (black), vegetables and fruits that have not undergone heat treatment. It is advisable to take enzyme preparations, activated carbon, which will reduce flatulence. The last meal should take place no later than 19:00 on the evening before the examination, after which it is necessary to cleanse the intestines with an enema.
