MRI of the bladder with contrast
In order for the study to carry maximum information about the patient's health, namely the presence of neoplasms and disorders in the circulatory system of the bladder, magnetic resonance imaging is prescribed using a contrast agent. The contrast is administered intravenously, it colors the blood flow, and thus a picture of the condition of the area being examined is visible.
Reasons for performing an MRI of the bladder
Most often, this study is prescribed when previous, less informative diagnostic methods did not provide an accurate diagnosis. Indications:
- pain symptoms in the groin and perineum;
- detected anomalies in the structure of the bladder;
- pain in the lower abdomen when visiting the toilet;
- blood in the urine;
- change in the color and density of urine;
- difficulty urinating.
Features of contraindications to magnetic resonance imaging
MRI should be refused if the patient has the following restrictions:
- pregnancy in the 1st trimester;
- the presence of pacemakers, insulin pumps, foreign bodies made of metal;
- renal insufficiency (when using contrast).
Preparing for MRI of the bladder
2 days before the diagnosis, it is necessary to exclude gas-forming foods from the diet. Immediately before the MRI, cleanse the intestines. Do not eat for 6 hours before the examination (if contrast is supposed to be administered). The patient should also remove all metal accessories and jewelry. During magnetic resonance imaging, it is necessary to remain motionless.
