General Information
With Helicobacter infection, IgG levels may gradually decline as pathogenic microbes are expelled. Helicobacter pylori is a widespread infection, primarily residing in the lower stomach, but it can also concentrate in other intestinal areas and the duodenum.
Infection can occur via household contact. It adversely affects the gastric mucosa in smokers, frequent alcohol consumers, or those with poor diets. Stress and depression exacerbate its spread.
The condition may lead to ulcers, gastritis, and other GI tract diseases, including cancer.
Indications for Helicobacter pylori IgG Testing
Discomfort, persistent heartburn, and GI pain are primary indications. Testing is recommended for those with a genetic predisposition to cancer.
How Is the Helicobacter pylori IgG Test Conducted?
Blood is drawn fasting in the morning, at least 8 hours after the last meal. Medication and vitamin intake must be controlled. Avoid fatty foods and alcohol 24 hours prior.
Since IgG appears 3–4 weeks post-infection, negative results may not fully reflect the clinical picture. Accurate results require retesting.
Testing also checks for IgM and IgA antibodies to Helicobacter pylori. Elevated levels of all antibody types indicate severe infection, necessitating immediate treatment.
Completion Time for Helicobacter pylori IgG Test
Results are ready within 3–5 business days.
