General Information
Testing avidity in most infections determines the disease’s nature and stage.
The human immune response produces antibodies (immunoglobulins).
For toxoplasma, this involves class M and G antibodies: IgM and IgG.
Immunoglobulin production begins weeks post-infection. For instance, IgG levels rise with bacterial activation, stabilizing only when the virus loses activity. This property enables precise testing, as antibody activity reflects the disease’s spread and intensity.
Avidity is measured using an index in fractions or percentages, showing how many of 100 antibodies target toxoplasma membranes. Low – ~30%, medium – 31-40%, high – 40%+. This index assesses pathology type and immune protection level. A level above 40% indicates strong immunity against reinfection.
Besides IgG, indicating acute infection forms, blood contains shorter-lived IgM antibodies (lasting ~3 months). Their presence suggests early-stage disease.
Indications for Toxoplasmosis Avidity Testing
Testing is indicated for pregnancy planning to detect early-stage pathology.
How Is Toxoplasmosis Avidity Testing Conducted?
A specialist draws venous blood fasting, with the last meal 4+ hours prior.
Completion Time for Toxoplasmosis Avidity Testing
Results are available on the fourth business day.
