Urine Glucose Test. Prices, Reviews, Ratings
In healthy individuals, glucose is fully reabsorbed by the renal tubules, so its content in urine is minimal. These levels are so low that sugar cannot be detected through general or biochemical urine analysis.

What is a Urine Glucose Test
Glucosuria (exceeding the norm) occurs when the renal tubules can no longer perform their function and fail to reabsorb sugar from urine into the blood. The norm is 8.8-9.9 mmol/day.
The causes of glucosuria include age-related changes in the body and various kidney diseases:
- Physiological – occurs due to stress, pregnancy, or excessive carbohydrate consumption.
- Pathological extrarenal – associated with diabetes mellitus, acute pancreatitis, fever, brain tumors, meningitis, encephalitis, or poisoning by toxic substances.
- Renal – organic kidney diseases, renal diabetes.
Indications for Urine Glucose Testing
The test may be ordered by a general practitioner, pediatrician, nephrologist, gynecologist, or endocrinologist during the diagnosis of conditions such as:
- Diabetes mellitus, steroid diabetes, or renal diabetes;
- Various dysfunctions of the endocrine system;
- Pancreatic diseases, tumors located in the pancreas, pancreatitis;
- Hyperthyroidism.
The test is mandatory during pregnancy, routine check-ups, and rehabilitation following poisoning by medications or toxic substances.
How the Urine Glucose Test Is Performed
For 24 hours before collection, exclude foods that affect urine color, such as beets or blueberries, from the diet. Discontinue medications like diuretics or urination-inducing drugs.
Immediately before collection, perform hygiene procedures without soap and dry the perineal area with a clean towel.
The morning portion of biological fluid is tested, ideally from the first urination of the day. Otherwise, a four-hour interval must be observed since the last urination before collecting the sample in a container. Collect 50-120 ml, though only 20 ml is used for analysis. The collected urine must be delivered to the laboratory on the day of collection.
The optimal time to determine urine sugar levels is within the first two hours after urination. Beyond this, glucose concentration in the sample begins to artificially decrease.
Processing Time for Urine Glucose Test
Results can be obtained the day after submitting the sample.
