Back massage is a preventive or therapeutic effect on all spinal sections (sacrum, lower back, thoracic section, neck) mainly with the help of hands. Its purpose is to relieve excessive tension, increase the range of motion, relax the body, stretch the joints, improve skin respiration, eliminate the effects of stress, restore the normal functioning of some organs, normalize lymph flow and blood circulation. If the impact is used as a therapeutic measure, it is effective only in combination with medication and other manual therapy techniques.
General information
Human back supplied with a branched network of nerves, muscles and blood vessels, it takes on significant loads. As a result of the excess of the latter, muscle spasm occurs, joints become painful and limited in movement, ligaments and vertebrae are deformed.
In addition to physical overexertion and the influence of age factors, possible spinal injuries, inflammatory processes, a sedentary lifestyle, deforming diseases of the spine should not be excluded as sources of negative consequences. All these problems can be solved, including with the help of massage.
There are many forms of massage:
- classic - the most popular and effective;
- sports;
- point or acupuncture;
- anti-cellulite;
- vibration;
- hydromassage.
Procedure
Preparation
Ideally, this should be a vertebroneurologist, a manual therapist with medical and special education and work experience. An accurate diagnosis and concomitant diseases are necessarily established, since contraindications are possible, even if this is just a relaxing procedure.
Sessions are best held in a clinic. It is possible at home, but this requires appropriate conditions. Otherwise, it will be impossible to apply the required load, therefore, the expected result will not be achieved.
All that is required from the client is thoroughly cleansed skin. The effect is enhanced by "warmed up" muscles (for example, after a bath, sauna, bath). But this is in the case when there are no contraindications for thermal procedures.
Choose a specialist carefully, since an incorrect massage can harm your health!
Conducting the procedure
The room where the session is carried out must have a comfortable temperature, but it should not be hot.
Conducting a massage in a cool room is excluded, since the cold contributes to the development and / or intensification of muscle spasm.
Technique
For the same reason, the specialist's hands must be dry and warm. At the client's request, it is possible to use oils, creams, ointments. However, this is not very effective, since it will not allow the skin to "breathe", is fraught with the appearance of acne, and most importantly, will not allow the specialist to knead the deep muscles.
- The patient lies comfortably on a hard table, placing his hands along the back. The masseur strokes from the sacrum to the neck using different techniques - this is the first stage. It causes exclusively pleasant sensations and prepares the body for further methods.
- Rubbing is the second stage with a greater load. With straight or circular movements, the specialist rubs the skin until hyperemia and warmth appear in the back. Blood circulation improves, the upper layer of the epidermis is peeled off.
- Kneading is the most rigid technique. It is carried out using different movements. The masseur needs to "get" to the deep muscles. There may be some mild pain.
- Vibration – vibration movements over the entire surface of the back.
- Stroking – “calming” of all tissue structures.
- The patient is covered with a warm sheet and allowed to lie down for 15-30 minutes.
You should not jump up immediately after the massage, let alone go outside! The body needs to calm down, to fully experience pleasant relaxation.
One session lasts 20 minutes. On average, ten (+/-) are needed. As a preventive measure, the manipulation can be carried out once every seven to ten days for two to three months. Then a break is required.
