Therapeutic back massage is a set of effects on the tissue structures of the body. It is used to treat the musculoskeletal system, general health improvement, and stress relief. Most effective in combination with drug therapy and other manual therapy techniques.

General information

The back is the largest reflex zone in the human body. It consists of the spine, a large number of muscles - superficial and deep, a huge nerve network, ligaments, and blood vessels. This area, as a result of life activity, takes on the greatest loads. Therefore, tension accumulates in muscle fibers, which has a negative effect not only on the back, but also on the corresponding internal organs.

Classification

By method of execution:

  • classical - the most common. With its help, you can massage any part of the body;
  • point acupuncture - impact on specific organs through specific points;
  • vibration massage - is carried out with the help of vibration medical devices;
  • hydromassage - the main "instrument" of this method is water;
  • cupping - is done with the help of medical cups for bronchitis, pneumonia, cellulite.

By purpose:

  • relaxing - allows you to relieve fatigue, mild tension and the effects of stress;
  • anti-cellulite - as an independent effect does not get rid of cellulite, but in combination produces a good positive effect;
  • lymphatic drainage - helps to remove swelling, cleanse and rejuvenate the body;
  • therapeutic - for diseases spine.

The main goal of massage is to relieve muscle tension.

Procedure

Preparation

A therapeutic back massage can be performed by a vertebroneurologist, reflexologist, or manual therapist.

Choose a specialist with a medical education! This is a rather tough, complex technique, and to perform it, you must have knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

The technique is selected individually, after establishing an accurate diagnosis and contraindications. Therefore, with an experienced massage therapist, the risk of complications is reduced to "zero".

All that is required from the patient is clean skin.

Conducting the procedure

It is not recommended to do the massage yourself at home. For this, at a minimum, a special table corresponding to the height of the massage therapist is required.

Technique of execution:

  • the specialist must have clean, dry, warm hands, since the cold can lead to even greater spasm. The couch is hard enough;
  • the procedure is performed in the direction of the lymph flow - from the bottom up. The exception is people with hypertension - they are massaged from top to bottom.
Patients with fluctuations in blood pressure (BP) must have their BP measured before the session. If it is elevated, then massage should not be performed.

There are four techniques of classical massage. The session always begins with stroking. This is a sliding movement along the back with one or two hands with a certain pressure force. There are different types of stroking: enveloping, flat, rake-like, rowing, pincer-like. The first two are the main ones. The task is to enhance the breathing of the epidermis.

  • rubbing - the skin is moved by hand in different directions. Types: rectilinear, spiral, circular, "sawing", "hatching", "crossing". The task is to improve lymphatic flow and blood circulation;
  • kneading - fixation of the muscle area with its subsequent compression, squeezing. The goal is to relieve muscle tension, knead deep muscles;
  • vibration – oscillatory movements of the hand on the patient's skin surface. Types: intermittent, continuous, stable, labile. The goal is to improve blood flow in the smallest vessels;
  • stroking is also used at the final stage. The goal is to "calm" the muscles and skin;

Usually, creams, oils or gels for various purposes (painkillers, anti-inflammatory, etc.) are indicated for therapeutic massage. They are applied before the final stage and rubbed in.

The duration of one session is 20 minutes. In total, 8 to 15 are needed.
