Kyphoscoliosis is a condition that combines two pathologies: kyphosis and scoliosis. It is widespread. This is a combined deviation of posture to the side (right or left) and back. General information

Classification

By form kyphoscoliosis happens:

  • right-sided;
  • left-sided.

By severity:

  • first degree - the angle of curvature of the spinal column is 45-55 degrees. There is a slight twisting of the vertebrae;
  • second - the angle of curvature is 55-65 degrees. Twisting (rotation) and lateral displacement become more pronounced;
  • third - the angle is 65-75 degrees. A hump is formed, significant deformation of the chest is observed. It happens that babies are born immediately with the third degree of severity;
  • fourth - the angle is 75 degrees or more. The hump and deformation are extremely pronounced.

Causes:

  • intrauterine developmental anomalies;
  • incorrect posture;
  • severe stress (the so-called physiological form);
  • Scheuermann-Mau syndrome;
  • cerebral palsy (the so-called paralytic form);
  • poliomyelitis;
  • rickets;
  • back injuries;
  • complications after surgery on the spine;
  • osteochondrosis (degenerative form);
  • weakness muscles;
  • neoplasms;
  • anomalies of the genitourinary system;
  • inflammatory processes in the column;
  • significant physical activity;
  • physical inactivity;
  • obesity.
Dear parents! Pay special attention to how your child sits at a desk, at a computer, etc. Incorrect "sitting" posture is a very common cause of kyphoscoliosis!

Procedure

Preparation

At the slightest suspicion of pathology, you must consult a vertebroneurologist, orthopedist or neurologist. To establish a diagnosis, the doctor uses the following diagnostic methods:

  • examination of the patient;
  • collection of anamnesis;
  • palpation of the back and muscles;
  • checking tendon reflexes;
  • special tests to assess the degree of deformation;
  • X-ray examination;
  • magnetic resonance imaging;
  • additional laboratory or visual methods at the discretion of the doctor, as well as consultations with other specialists.

Carrying out the procedure

It is possible to completely straighten the spinal column in children with the first and second stages and before the onset of rapid hormonal growth. The critical age for complete elimination of the problem is 11-12 years.

Conservative treatment of kyphoscoliosis is effective.

The main methods:

  • therapeutic gymnastics is an active method;
  • massage is passive;
  • corseting is carried out starting from the second degree. This corrective method is mandatory. To achieve good results, the corset must be worn 23 hours a day;
  • exercises on simulators;
  • sanatorium and resort courses.

Unfortunately, surgery is ineffective for this disease. It is used in extreme cases, and then only to stabilize the spine and fix it for life. Special medical metal structures (screws, pins, hooks, etc.) are used for this purpose.

It is impossible for adults to completely get rid of kyphoscoliosis! Especially if the process is already at the third or fourth stage.

Indications

The following symptoms are indications for immediate help:

  • headache, neck, back pain;
  • muscle weakness;
  • numbness in the limbs;
  • involuntary urination and defecation;
  • sexual dysfunction;
  • constant stoop;
  • awkwardness in movements.

If the pathology is congenital, then a small hump is noticeable in a child by six months to a year. It disappears in a lying position.

Contraindications

The sooner you see a doctor, the more favorable the prognosis for healing will be! Otherwise, your child may remain disabled forever, since the disease will constantly progress.
