General information
35-40% of all pathologies in childhood are related to changes in the urinary system. Non-invasive painless examination is carried out using ultrasound waves reflected from organs, displaying a section image on the screen. The bladder is often examined in combination with an ultrasound of the kidneys. In this case, the size, shape, volume, condition of the tissue and its walls, patency and neck, contents and volume of residual urine are assessed. In children, the procedure is performed if the following is observed:
- discomfort and pain when urinating;
- dysfunction, retention of the urinary tract;
- incontinence;
- a large number of salts in the general urine analysis;
- change in urine color, the appearance of blood in it;
- stones, suspicion of neoplasms;
- pain in the lumbar region, bruises and abdominal injuries.
The smallest patients undergo diagnostics when the bilirubin level is elevated, tests reveal changes in urine, neoplasms are palpated in the abdominal cavity, edema, developmental anomalies are observed, pregnancy and childbirth were difficult, with dysbacteriosis in newborns.

Preparation
Preparation for a child before an ultrasound of the bladder may seem complicated. First, you need to urinate, and then drink water. The non-invasive examination is carried out in a full state:
- children under eight months who are bottle-fed or breastfed will have to drink about 100 ml twenty minutes before the examination;
- for diagnosing children aged 8 months to one and a half years, parents should refrain from feeding them raw fruits and vegetables, white bread for the next 24 hours. 20 minutes before percussion, the baby should be given at least 100 ml of juice, formula or water;
- children over two years old should refrain from eating fresh vegetables and fruits, legumes, baked goods, white bread, carbonated drinks for 24 hours. An hour before the diagnosis, they should go to the toilet, and then drink liquid at a rate of 10 ml / kg of body weight.
You can not give the baby too much liquid: this can stretch the ureters and bladder, therefore distort the results. It is advisable to give water, compote or tea as a liquid, milk and soda are prohibited.
Ultrasound of the bladder
Non-invasive examination of small and large patients by a sonologist is carried out in the same way. The baby is placed on a couch, the lower back and stomach to the pubis are freed from clothing. Then a little special gel is applied to the abdominal area, simplifying the movement of the ultrasound sensor over the lumbar and abdominal areas. The doctor may ask older children to hold their breath for a few seconds. If there is a suspicion of pathology, the sonologist asks the child to urinate, and then conducts a repeat examination. A pediatric nephrologist or urologist is responsible for interpreting the results.
Rehabilitation period
