Ophthalmoscopy of the fundus. Prices, reviews, ratings
General information
In fact, the examination of the fundus is carried out by means of light rays reflected from it, that is, from the bottom of the eye. As a method of ophthalmological diagnostics, ophthalmoscopy is a very common and very effective tool, especially as part of a comprehensive diagnosis of the patient's vision.
There are two main types of ophthalmoscopy:
- direct;
- reverse.
The device used in this procedure is called an ophthalmoscope. This device can be either electric (used for both types) or mirror (used for reverse ophthalmoscopy). When performing a reverse examination of the fundus, two magnifying glasses are also used, and the image is obtained in an inverted form. In order to conduct a direct examination of the fundus, only an ophthalmoscope is needed. The examination is carried out with a narrow or wide pupil, but preference is given to a wide one. Ophthalmoscopy helps to establish the exact condition of the optic nerve, retina, detect even at relatively early stages hidden diseases and pathologies, analyze the condition of blood vessels and blood supply to the eye.
In ophthalmoscopy, the ophthalmologist's experience is very important, since based on the blood vessel map, he will be able to draw a conclusion about the general condition of the eye's blood supply and even about the condition of the circulatory system of the examined person as a whole.
Examination of the fundus allows you to find out the condition of those parts of the eye that are in its internal environment, and in all details (for example, the condition of the optic nerve). Efficiency is also high due to the ability to magnify the image, which is available in electronic ophthalmoscopes. And having seen everything about the condition of the fundus, the ophthalmologist can give a primary assessment of the patient's visual system.
Procedure
Preparation
If ophthalmoscopy is performed through a wide pupil, it must be dilated with special preparations in the form of drops. In other cases, special preparation for this procedure is not needed.
Process of ophthalmoscopy
When performing reverse ophthalmoscopy, the lamp is located slightly behind and to the left. The ophthalmologist sits opposite the patient and, having noticed a red glare from the pupil, places the magnifying glass at a right angle to the beam of directed light.
A manual ophthalmoscope is most often used for direct examination of the fundus. Its use is the most effective - it allows you to avoid glare, due to the fact that the device separates the emitted and reflected light from the fundus.
A hand-held ophthalmoscope gives a non-inverted image and allows you to increase the image of the examined areas of the eye by 15-16 times for the most complete and accurate examination.
Rehabilitation period
This procedure is painless and does not cause complications. The patient does not need a rehabilitation period.
Indications
Non-contact ophthalmoscopy allows you to identify many eye diseases, as well as analyze the state of human blood vessels, which allows you to conclude whether the patient has, for example, diabetes or high blood pressure. Retinal periphery examinations are better performed using reverse ophthalmoscopy, while the condition of the optic nerve is easier to determine using direct fundus examination.
Contraindications
Contraindications to ophthalmoscopy:
- infectious eye diseases;
- inflammatory process, the focus of which affected the anterior segment of the patient's eye;
- any injuries and conditions that cause photophobia and profuse tear flow.
Prices and clinics
Ophthalmoscopy is one of the main methods of vision diagnostics. This procedure is performed almost every time you visit an ophthalmologist. The price is not very high and varies only depending on the location and the equipment used in the diagnostic process.
