Thrombocythemia is a pathology in the functioning of the red bone marrow. It is characterized by an increased level of platelet production, which can lead to certain types of thrombosis, hyperplasia and bleeding.

- Primary, arising due to a malfunction of the bone marrow;
- Secondary, appearing as a result of infectious diseases, exposure to radiation, surgical interventions, complications caused by taking medications.
The primary type is usually diagnosed in elderly people, while the secondary is most often observed in young children. It is also interesting that medical specialists have not yet been able to reliably establish the cause of increased platelet synthesis in the human body.
