In medicine, hemophilia is classified as a hereditary disorder that manifests itself in the form of excessive bleeding due to poor blood clotting.

General information

Only representatives of the strong half of humanity suffer from hemophilia, to whom the defective gene is transmitted from the mother. Women are the main carriers of the disease or so-called conductors. However, there are known cases when representatives of the fair sex also suffered from hemophilia.

Depending on the severity of the disease and the severity of symptoms, there are three degrees of the disease:

  • Mild, occurring almost asymptomatically and revealing itself only by an increase in bleeding time during surgery or as a result of injuries;
  • Moderate, characterized by the causeless appearance of hematomas on the body due to mechanical impact, as well as infrequent hemorrhages in the joints after falls or bruises;
  • Severe, manifested by extensive bruises and hematomas of soft tissues and skin, joint pain and their poor mobility, blood in the urine and stool, frequent nosebleeds, unexplained bleeding of various localizations.

Treatment process

As with the manifestation of symptoms of any illness, first of all, it is necessary to carry out a series of diagnostic measures aimed at determining the severity of the disease.

At the hemophilia treatment center, the doctor, referring the patient for tests, must determine the blood clotting time, as well as a list of missing factors, the absence of which negatively affects this process. Such actions will allow the specialist to get a complete picture of the patient's condition and prescribe certain medications.

Despite the fact that this pathology is incurable, it is still possible to treat hemophilia (especially in children), as well as monitor the patient's condition. A patient with hemophilia receives the substances that the body lacks, responsible for the blood clotting process, through injections. The necessary clotting factors are obtained from the blood of donors or animals specially bred for such a procedure.

With proper and timely therapy, a person suffering from such a disease will live a long life.

Indications for the treatment procedure

There are several signs of the development of pathology

  1. Periodically occurring severe bleeding, which can be caused by injuries of varying severity or surgery.
  2. Spontaneous bleeding in the mouth or nose, which cannot be stopped using standard means and methods.
  3. Formation of large hematomas even with minor injuries.
  4. The appearance of joint bleeding, accompanied by swelling and acute pain sensations.
  5. Suddenly arising digestive problems.
  6. Presence of blood in urine and feces.
  7. In severe forms of the disease, hemorrhages in the spinal cord or brain are possible.

Contraindications

A person suffering from hemophilia is strictly contraindicated to any operations. However, in case of extreme necessity, it is necessary to carry out (before or after the intervention) a blood transfusion in order to avoid a fatal outcome from large blood loss. In case of long and complex surgical interventions, such a procedure can be repeated from two to four times.
