Prostate puncture. Prices, reviews, ratings
General information
Prostate puncture is used to diagnose prostate cancer or in the presence of chronic severe inflammatory processes, the nature of which cannot be determined.
Puncture biopsy of the prostate helps to make a correct morphological diagnosis of a malignant tumor and determine the degree and stage of its malignancy.
Procedure
Preparation
Before prostate puncture, patients are advised to:
- Stop taking anticoagulants, aspirin and other drugs that affect blood clotting.
- The day before the puncture biopsy, the patient should give himself a cleansing enema.
- If the patient suffers from angina, he should have a drug with him in case of an attack of chest pain (nitroglycerin or validol) and take it before the procedure.
Prostate puncture procedure
In medicine, there are two ways to perform punctures:
- transperineal;
- transrectal.
The transperineal method (perineal) involves a 2 cm transverse incision, which is made slightly to the left of the midline. The surgeon punctures the prostate gland with a trocar. The working instrument is removed, obtaining a small amount of tissue for biopsy studies.
With the transrectal method of taking a puncture, the surgeon inserts a gloved finger into the rectum. After this, a trocar is moved along the finger to the area of the prostate gland of interest.
Recently, the puncture is usually done with a thin special needle, and its contents are examined using the cytological method.
Rehabilitation period
After the prostate puncture, patients will have blood in their stool and urine for several days. The presence of blood in the sperm can persist for several months. To eliminate these unpleasant consequences, it is necessary to strictly follow the doctor's recommendations.
Indications
The main indication for prostate puncture is the presence of prostate cancer in the patient. This procedure is also prescribed when changes in the structure of the prostate are detected as a result of an ultrasound examination.
Contraindications
There are no significant contraindications to prostate puncture, a relative contraindication is a categorical refusal of the patient to undergo a puncture or the presence of motor agitation in the patient.
Complications
Prostate puncture may be accompanied by the following complications:
- damage to the pelvic vessels;
- damage to the intestinal vessels (rectum);
- bleeding;
- hematoma formation.
