The following shapes of large buttocks are distinguished based on the anatomical structure of the muscles: V-shaped, A-shaped, square and round.
There are also:
- natural or congenital - this is the result of genetic predisposition, typical for women of African tribes (Bushmen, Hottentots and other peoples). In this case, it is called steatopygia and is the norm. It is believed that such a structure developed as a result of adaptation to a dry climate.
- acquired or unnatural - the size increases during life due to various reasons.
Reasons
The root causes that probably contribute to the increase in size may be heredity, genetic predisposition, physiological characteristics of the body, various hormonal (especially from the pituitary gland, hypothalamus, pancreas) and metabolic disorders, taking hormonal medications, poor nutrition, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, race (the defect is most common among Africans, it is practically not found in white women), age (due to age-related changes), increased accumulation of triglycerides, the development of fat folds under the gluteal muscles (typical of African women of some tribes), spending a long time standing position.
Symptoms
The pathology is interpreted as an aesthetic defect that disrupts the harmonious proportions of the female figure.
The clinical picture has the following manifestations:
- extended volumes;
- the appearance of cellulite;
- become denser to the touch;
- reduced skin elasticity;
- possibly decreased muscle tone in this area;
- unpleasant sensations or discomfort when sitting;
- the disease affects gait and walking speed;
- an inferiority complex and lack of self-confidence develop;
- a decrease in social adaptation occurs person.
The deposition of fatty tissue in the buttocks area can be increased three times in relation to the usual indicators of fat deposition in this area.
Women suffer from this cosmetic defect more often than men due to the physiological characteristics of their body.
Signs of steatopygia are an excessive increase in the buttocks (reaching a width of almost 90 cm), increased fat deposition, which is typical even for young girls.
Both women and men can suffer from steatopygia.
Diagnostics
If you have this anomaly, you should make an appointment with a cosmetologist. You should also consult an endocrinologist (to rule out endocrine system diseases) and a plastic surgeon (to adjust treatment).
This pathology is diagnosed after measuring the angle between the back and buttocks, if it exceeds 90 degrees. The endocrinologist also prescribes a blood test for sugar and hormones of the pituitary gland, hypothalamus and pancreas.
Treatment
Therapy for this defect is performed by a plastic surgeon during plastic surgery. Indications for surgical manipulation are: excessive accumulation of adipose tissue, involutional changes, injuries in this area, insufficient trophism of the skin, muscle and adenoid tissue, decreased tone of the gluteal muscles. You can also achieve a reduction in volume with the help of liposuction (vacuum removal of excess fat). It can be mechanical or ultrasonic.
If the volumes are not greatly increased, then a diet is prescribed (flour, fried, sweet foods are excluded), massage and anti-cellulite wraps.
Prevention
As preventive measures, it is necessary to maintain proper nutrition, an active lifestyle and promptly treat neurohormonal dysfunctions.
