They are classified as closed (they occur in 80% of cases) and open. All of them are often associated with everyday situations, beatings, careless sex, gunshot, stab or cutting wounds, frostbite and burns.

The main types include bruises, pinches, dislocations and fractures. Sometimes you have to deal with scalp cuts, bites and others.

In urology, it is customary to distinguish five degrees of injury to the phallus:

  • Violation of the integrity of the skin, bruise.
  • Trauma of the fascia of Buck, which surrounds the cavernous bodies.
  • Rupture of the head, urethra.
  • Ruptures more than 2 cm in length and partial amputation.
  • Complete detachment of the penis.

Causes

The genital organ is a vulnerable place due to its external location. This causes frequent injuries at home, at work, during sexual intercourse, in fights, beatings, accidents and disasters.

Symptoms

With bruises, pain is observed, which decreases quickly. If there is a rupture of the protein cover, there is increasing pain, swelling and hematoma. Due to the development of a blood tumor, the color of the penis changes to purple or blue, the person experiences difficulty walking, and urine flow is impaired. With a fracture of the cavernous body, internal blood loss occurs, causing a significant increase in the phallus and adjacent areas.

With strangulation, a cut is formed on the skin, accompanied by intense pain. This leads to swelling, urinary retention, and prolonged compression threatens necrosis and gangrene.

When the ligaments are torn, the penis itself feels like an empty bag. Rough sex causes the cavernous bodies to rupture, and the urethra is torn. The patient hears a cracking sound when the fracture occurs, reminiscent of breaking glass, followed by acute pain and the erection passes. When blood comes out, a blood clot is formed, and shock phenomena are noted. This is a dangerous condition that leads to inflammatory diseases, curvature, painful erection and impotence.

With open trauma, blood flows out, pain, and traumatic shock occur. Lacerations can be minor injuries and can lead to complete amputation, as well as damage to adjacent areas. A laceration is always accompanied by profuse blood loss, shock, and problems with urination.

With frostbite, the skin color changes to bluish, and tingling, itching, and swelling are felt. If the frostbite is shallow, these sensations disappear on their own within a few days. In case of serious injuries, the layers of the body undergo necrosis, purulent ulcers develop that do not heal for several months.

Burns are divided into 4 stages:

  • edema and hyperemia;
  • the appearance of blisters, edema of the subcutaneous tissue, urinary retention;
  • necrosis of the surface;
  • death of the internal bodies of the phallus.

Diagnostics

If you receive an injury, you should make an appointment with a surgeon, traumatologist or urologist. First, the specialist conducts an initial examination, listens to complaints and palpates. To make a diagnosis, ultrasound, MRI, cavernosography and other studies are performed. To exclude disorders in the urinary system, urethrography and urethroscopy are prescribed.

Treatment

Such men require emergency medical care. First of all, it is aimed at stopping the bleeding. To do this, apply cold, put on a pressure bandage. In case of fractures, a splint is applied, anti-shock therapy is performed. Inpatient primary surgical treatment of wounds is carried out, including burn areas, infectious and gunshot penetrations, removal of foreign fragments, drainage of bruises and revision.

In case of animal bites, a rabies vaccine is administered. The strangulated penis is freed from constraining factors. Dislocations are subject to manual reduction and suturing of the ligamentous apparatus, attachment of cavernous tissues to the bones.

Ruptures of the frenulum are eliminated by frenuloplasty. According to indications, plastic surgery is performed using the epidermis of the scrotum or pubis, as well as the abdomen. Burns and frostbite are subject to standard therapy.

When the urinary outlet is affected, an epicystoma, anastomotic urethroplasty is performed.

If reimplantation is impossible, reconstructive phalloplasty is indicated.

Prevention

Precautions should be taken during sports training. Preventive measures also include non-traumatic intimacy, sex education and careful handling of potentially dangerous machinery and animals.
