There are two types of anal papillae:

  • triangular and wide at the base;
  • papilla on a narrow stalk and rounded.

Causes

If the anal papillae become inflamed, injured or infected, papillitis develops. Anal papillae can be injured by hard fecal matter

There are two types of anal papillae:

  • triangular and wide at the base;
  • papilla on a narrow stalk and rounded.

Causes

If anal papillae become inflamed, injured or infected, papillitis develops. Anal papillae can be injured by hard feces or indigestible food residues (husks from seeds, fragments from pits), stool disorders, both constipation and diarrhea. Microorganisms enter the rectum from other infected areas (hemorrhoids, fistulas, cryptitis). As a result of these processes, swelling of the mucous membrane occurs.

Pain in the anus and discomfort are observed. Sitting on a chair or toilet for a long time disrupts blood circulation in the pelvis. Frequent abuse of enemas also leads to inflammation. Anal papillae are pale red nodules. When palpated in a healthy person, they do not cause pain and their diameter is about one centimeter. If these papillae become inflamed, then the disease papillitis occurs. When these papillae become inflamed, they increase in size to almost four centimeters in diameter, and there is a possibility of their falling out of the rectum.

Symptoms

Manifestation of characteristic sharp and acute pain in the anus with papillitis. Increased pain is observed with frequent bowel movements or constipation. If the anal papillae are injured, drops of blood may appear with the feces. With severe pain, a spasm or weakening of the sphincter may occur.

Diagnostics

If the patient feels pain in the anus: itching, discomfort, etc., then it is necessary to consult a proctologist.

The doctor will perform a visual examination of the patient, examine the canal using a digital method, and, if necessary, may prescribe an anoscopic diagnosis:

  • digital examination (patient at rest, straining);
  • anoscopic diagnosis;
  • rectomonoscopic examination;
  • transrectal ultrasonography;
  • histological examination.

Treatment

Papillitis – a disease that may not bother a person if the papillae do not fall out and are small in size. If it so happens that it is necessary to consult a doctor, then the proctologist prescribes antibacterial therapy, anti-inflammatory. If drug treatment does not bring results, then the doctor resorts to removing the anal papilla. Or removing the papilla with cold, that is, cauterization with liquid nitrogen. These operations are performed in a hospital setting and are operated under local anesthesia. Postoperative rehabilitation is without complications and does not take long.

Along with drug treatment, the doctor suggests that the patient be treated with a diet. Add more fresh vegetables and fruits, dairy products, cereals, black bread, yogurt, bran to the diet. It is necessary to do therapeutic exercise to improve blood circulation in the pelvis.

Prevention

To avoid a disease such as papillitis, it is necessary:

  • Maintain hygiene of the anus after each bowel movement;
  • Preventive baths with warm water with the addition of manganese;
  • Regular therapeutic exercise to improve blood circulation in the pelvis;
  • Monitor the nature and amount of stool, that is, if constipation, then take more fiber or laxatives;
  • Exclude the use of alcohol and tobacco products;
  • Exclude spicy, salty, fried, fatty foods from the diet;
  • Avoid the entry of solid indigestible foods into the gastrointestinal tract (husks from seeds, fruit and berry pits);
  • preventive examination by a proctologist;
  • treatment of concomitant diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
