TOP 7 unwritten truths for parents to protect their child from injury

Only a very self-confident person can take a newborn tiny creature in his arms without fear. For a young father and even experienced grandparents, the first acquaintance is very reverent, cautious due to the defenselessness and pliability of the baby's body. As the child grows, he gets stronger, masters some skills, which slightly dulls the parent's observation. What should adults around you never forget? I will tell you about seven mandatory points that must be strictly observed in the family.

1. "No" to height

Even a newborn baby, despite his inability to roll over from side to side, is capable of falling from the height of the changing table. Any pediatric neurologist or traumatologist at a local clinic will tell you about such dangerous incidents. The vigilance of relatives is lulled by the apparent helplessness of the baby. Closer to 4 months, the risk of falling increases a hundredfold. Mom has not yet realized that the baby is actively turning over, is distracted for literally a second - and he is already on the floor.

Any fall, even from a low sofa, can end in a traumatic brain injury, the serious consequences of which often appear later. Therefore, even in the absence of visible results of the fall, the observed adequate behavior of the child, it is advisable to show the baby to a pediatric neurologist. The doctor will check the baby's reflexes and conduct all the necessary tests.

Common mistakes parents make:

  • put the baby on the changing table and turned away to get powder, a diaper, etc.;
  • pull the stroller down the stairs without fastening the baby in it;
  • fail to raise the side of the crib in time, and the baby is already trying to stand on his feet;
  • at night, a sleepy, tired mother feeds the baby, holding him on her lap, falls asleep and drops him;
  • fail to close the passage to the stairs, and the crawling fidget gets to it;
  • left unattended in the high chair;
  • "protected" from falls with pillows on sofa, bed during play, sleep;
  • did not secure sharp corners of furniture with special silicone pads;
  • left an open window in the apartment where the child is.
Do not leave the baby without adult attention. If you leave even for a minute, put him in a playpen with a side height in accordance with the age. From four months, the baby's play area should be a walking playpen or the floor. Install handles with a lock on the windows to prevent opening. Never put children on the windowsill to look out the window. Buy a sports mat for the Swedish wall.

2. Be careful with hot

Closer to a year, the fidget begins to walk. He takes his first awkward steps hand in hand with his mother, in a walker, with reins. But there comes a time when the baby travels around the apartment on his own and easily disappears from the parents' sight. A mug of freshly poured tea left on the edge of the table, a hot plate of soup or a saucepan on the stove can seriously injure the baby. Forget about tablecloths on the dining table until the child grows up. Even a crawling baby can grab onto hanging fabric and throw everything on it onto itself.

If the burn has become a fait accompli, the damaged area is larger than a five-kopeck coin, blisters appear - be sure to call an ambulance, cool the damaged area with a wet compress.

What parents should not forget within the reach of the child:

  • hot iron;
  • working oven, electric stove;
  • hot food, drinks, etc.;
  • flammable mixtures (gasoline, kerosene, etc.);
  • lighted candles, fires;
  • any pyrotechnics;
  • matches, lighters, sparklers.

3. Sharp, cutting out of sight

It happens that scissors in the hands of a child can cost you a couple of holes in your favorite curtain, damaged linoleum or a cut lock of hair in the middle of your bangs. Good if so. Unfortunately, accidents from knives, needles, and scissors falling into the hands of little ones are not uncommon. Make sure that all sewing supplies are on a high shelf. Do not leave knives and scissors on the edge of the table, hide them immediately in an inaccessible place after use.

4. All small items are hidden or "evicted" from the house

Every woman has a box with buttons, paper clips and other trinkets that can be useful around the house. Try to think of a secluded place for it so that the little treasure hunter can't find it. Don't keep small parts from broken devices or even the contents of Kinder Surprise eggs at home. If you manage to talk to a pediatric surgeon, you will find out how many accidents have happened to little ones because of these little toys. Remember, at the age of up to 3 years, and sometimes even older, naughty children try to put any small objects in their nose, mouth, and even ears.

If trouble happens, don't try to remove the foreign body yourself. You risk making the problem worse. Take your child to the doctor immediately.

5. Water - only with adults

It's not for nothing that they say that you can drown in a puddle. Therefore, never leave your child unattended near open water bodies, wells, or even basins (buckets) of water. A baby should be in the presence of a family member when bathing. A kettle that boils at the wrong time, an accidental guest, or unfinished household chores that distract the mother are moments of inattention, the price of which can be too high. Do not rely on swimming aids - they can deflate or capsize at any moment. An inflatable ring for newborns (attached to the neck) also does not provide a 100% guarantee of protection. The baby sometimes slips out of it, and can accidentally catch water with its mouth. There are known cases when rings were deflated in a matter of seconds due to improper use, over-inflation, or hidden defects.

Be vigilant and responsible. A couple of seconds are enough for a baby to choke on water.

6. Electrical appliances (sockets) under supervision

Little curious fidgets quickly master the open spaces of the room as soon as they start crawling. Any electrical appliances, extension cords, sockets located at the level of the baby must be removed or covered with special devices. For sockets, buy plugs that are fixed with a lock - this is a good option for too nimble babies. Put all faulty devices in an inaccessible place. Categorically forbid your child to play with the TV or other equipment. Hide all metal objects that may interest the naughty one.

I think it is not worth mentioning that there should be no faulty wiring or exposed wires in the room.

7. Medicines, household chemicals - under lock and key

It is worth recalling what is written in any annotation to medicines. Namely: they should be out of reach of children. But it is convenient for us to have everything at hand, especially if one of the family members is sick. Do not rely on luck, maybe. An overdose of medicines, even safe at first glance (for example, valerian), can be fatal for the baby.

If you nevertheless notice the fact of taking tablets, syrups, immediately wash the stomach, call an ambulance.

Pay attention to the storage conditions of hazardous liquids (vinegar, alcohol, acid, poisons), household chemicals. Do not pour chemicals into food bottles. The child may get confused and swallow without understanding. Bright capsules of washing gel, fragrant air fresheners, sweet toothpaste attract inquisitive rascals. Designate a place in the pantry, loggia, in a lockable cabinet for jars that pose a threat to life.

Remember, you have been given the blessing of raising a little person. Do not rely on chance. Always be on guard for the safety of the young family member. The baby is growing very quickly, and the dangerous period will soon be behind you!
