Clinical Blood Test. Prices, Reviews, Ratings
General Information
This clinical test evaluates the following blood components:
- Red blood cell count;
- Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR);
- Hemoglobin content;
- White blood cell count;
- Leukocyte differential.
The blood test can determine clotting speed, allergic tendencies, and aid in diagnosing conditions like anemia or blood cancers. It may also indicate inflammatory-infectious processes in the body.
Methods and Interpretation of Clinical Blood Testing
Today, blood is analyzed using automated analyzers or microscopes. Two common methods determine ESR:
- Panchenkov method using a capillary;
- Westergren method using a test tube.
There are established norms for blood component levels, but only a therapist can interpret the results and draw conclusions.
For example, elevated red blood cells may indicate pathologies like leukemia, lung disease, or congenital heart defects; low white blood cells suggest viral infections (viral hepatitis, flu, measles, rubella, AIDS), connective tissue diseases (rheumatoid arthritis), while high ESR typically points to inflammatory-infectious conditions like pneumonia, tuberculosis, syphilis, kidney disease, fractures, poisoning, or cancer.
Conditions for Testing and Turnaround Time
For accurate results, the test must be conducted on an empty stomach. Blood is usually taken from the finger, less often from a vein. Results are typically ready the next day, but in urgent cases, clinics offer an “express method,” providing results the same day within a set time.
