Canthopexy. Prices, reviews, ratings
General information
During a surgical procedure called canthopexy, a plastic surgeon tightens and lifts the outer corner of the patient's eyelids. This operation is aesthetic in nature, as it is designed to improve the contour of the eyes. But there is also a health benefit: with canthopexy, the lower eyelid is lifted and strengthened.
This operation is performed either as an independent procedure or in combination with blepharoplasty or lipofilling.
Procedure
Preparation
The patient must consult a plastic surgeon to discuss the desired effect. An ophthalmologist consultation is also needed. He must also undergo a full examination, in particular, a blood test to rule out possible infectious diseases and other pathologies.
Canthopexy procedure
During canthopexy, the plastic surgeon exposes the lateral ligament (canthus, which supports the lower eyelid) by making a small incision in the natural fold of the upper eyelid. The surgeon fixes the ligament with self-dissolving threads, the incision is sutured.
The operation itself lasts from one to two hours, both general and local anesthesia are used. In the first case, the patient's condition must be monitored by an experienced anesthesiologist-resuscitator.
Rehabilitation period
The recovery period after the procedure does not last long. The effect of canthopexy becomes noticeable two weeks after the procedure. The stitches are removed reconcilably after five days. The incision site becomes invisible after two months.
After the surgery, you must adhere to the following recommendations:
- wear dark glasses when going out in the sun;
- avoid visiting the pool, bathhouse and sauna for the next month;
- do not use cosmetics for the next two weeks;
- do not read, use a computer or TV for the period specified by the doctor;
- avoid physical activity;
- refrain from smoking and drinking alcoholic beverages.
Indications and contraindications
The main indications for this plastic surgery are:
- eversion of the eyelid;
- weakening canthus;
- age-related changes in the structure of the eyelid;
- congenital pathology;
- trauma or stretching of the canthus.
Contraindications
This procedure is not performed if the patient has poor blood clotting, problems with the cardiovascular system, or if the patient has inflammatory processes or infectious diseases.
Complications
The appearance of bruises and hematomas is a natural consequence of this operation, which is temporary. In rare cases, the incision may become infected.
Prices and clinics
Canthopexy is performed in specialized medical institutions, and the price for this operation varies depending on the location where it is performed.
