Laser blepharoplasty of the lower eyelid is a surgical intervention performed to correct the shape of the lower eyelid of the human eye using a laser as the surgeon's main tool.

General information

Blapharoplasty is one of the most popular plastic procedures, because the attractiveness of the entire face often depends on how good the skin around the eyes looks. The lower eyelids of a person are characterized by the fact that the skin on them is very soft and delicate. Bags under the eyes and wrinkles that form over time or due to fatigue and lack of sleep are a consequence of either changes in the structure of the skin or stagnation of water in the body.

Laser is increasingly used for blepharoplasty. This method has its advantages:

  • laser wounds heal much faster because the focused beams cut the flesh much more accurately and thinner than even the sharpest scalpel;
  • scars do not form during the wound healing process;
  • the effect of the operation is very durable, while the risk of infection or bleeding is minimal due to the properties of the laser.

However, it is worth noting that the laser is not a universal tool, because some procedures cannot be done without a scalpel. Fortunately, lower eyelid blepharoplasty can be performed using this method without any special restrictions. It is only important that the skin of the lower eyelids still remains sufficiently elastic.

Procedure

Preparation

To check the health condition and the absence of contraindications, the patient must undergo a full examination. A blood test is mandatory. The patient needs a consultation with an ophthalmologist and an examination of the visual system in order to identify possible problems with intraocular pressure.

Process of laser blepharoplasty of the lower eyelids

There are several methods for performing this procedure. In the first, the plastic surgeon makes neat incisions that are carried out under the eyelash line directly with a laser, in the second, transconjunctival blepharoplasty is performed using a laser. This type is relevant if there is an increase in fat deposits with a normal amount of skin tissue. The laser is also used for orbital plastic surgery, which is performed through the oral cavity.

Rehabilitation period

The full rehabilitation period lasts about 14 days. During the first few days, cold compresses should be applied to reduce eyelid swelling.

The stitches are removed a week after the operation. At first, it is forbidden to drink hot drinks, to stay in the sun for a long time.

Physical stress is also contraindicated.

Indications and contraindications

This operation is performed with excess skin and fatty tissue of the lower eyelid, but only if the skin itself is still sufficiently elastic and firm.

Contraindications

The laser blepharoplasty procedure is contraindicated in the following cases:

  • pathologies of the endocrine system;
  • the presence of HIV infection;
  • inflammatory processes at the site of the intervention;
  • neoplasms (both benign and malignant);
  • increased intraocular pressure fluids;

The main complications of laser blepharoplasty of the lower eyelids:
