Treatment of conjunctivitis. Prices, reviews, ratings
General information
Conjunctivitis is an inflammatory process associated with damage to the conjunctiva (mucous membrane of the eye). This process can be a consequence of both an allergic reaction and the result of the actions of foreign pathogens, namely bacteria or viruses. Both viruses and bacteria cause conjunctivitis in children quite often. Conjunctivitis can occur without visible serious symptoms, such as mucus discharge. Most often, this disease manifests itself externally, for example, with purulent discharge and swelling of the eyelids.
Depending on the type of conjunctivitis, sometimes there may be a discharge of mucous fluids, stinging in the eyes, irritation, itching. However, as a rule, only a narrow set of specific symptoms is observed (they do not occur together).
The reason for the spread of conjunctivitis, as a contagious disease, are:
- failure to comply with personal hygiene rules;
- the effect of any allergen;
- chemical fumes that caused a serious reaction.
Conjunctivitis can also be a secondary symptom of acute respiratory viral infection.
This disease is diagnosed by an ophthalmologist, who identifies the exact cause of its occurrence.
Treatment process
Preparation
To identify the source of the disease, you should undergo an examination by a doctor. When consulting an ophthalmologist, in some cases a conjunctival smear may be required. It should be noted that there are also relatively rare causes of conjunctivitis. This disease is diagnosed only by a doctor. Viral conjunctivitis can actually go away on its own, but you should not count on the fact that the patient has this type.
Conjunctivitis treatment process
When choosing a treatment method, the ophthalmologist relies on the type of this disease:
- The allergic type is treated by eliminating the allergen itself, and then applying cold compresses. If the case is relatively complicated, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or antihistamines are prescribed;
- conjunctivitis, the source of which is a bacterial infection, is treated with antibiotics that cover a wide range of different types of bacteria, in the form of special ointments or eye drops;
- conjunctivitis, which was caused by a viral infection, is cured with specialized drugs aimed at suppressing the activity of viruses (usually in the form of drops), as well as interferon.
Rehabilitation period
The process of recovery and restoration of the natural appearance of damaged tissues usually takes a relatively short time - from five days to two weeks, although the fungal type takes a very long time to treat.
A very important point in the rehabilitation period is strict adherence to hygiene rules and recommendations doctor.
Indications
Only an ophthalmologist can correctly determine the diagnosis after a complete examination. But the symptoms of this disease are as follows:
- swelling of the eyelids;
- photophobia;
- redness of the white of the eye;
- swelling of the conjunctiva;
- lacrimation.
Contraindications
Contraindications for the treatment of each type of conjunctivitis depend on the individual tolerance of the drugs used in the course of treatment.
Complications
If conjunctivitis is ignored, the disease threatens to develop into keratitis. Treatment of conjunctivitis itself does not involve radical intervention in the form of operations (if conjunctivitis is not caused by an irregular shape of the eye structures) and therefore does not threaten complications.
Prices and clinics
Treatment of conjunctivitis is not difficult and is carried out by ophthalmologists. The cost depends on the type of drugs used.
