General information
The thrombectomy method is used less frequently than other methods of treating venous thrombosis (surgical or balloon angioplasty). There are the following types of thrombus removal: aspiration and rheolytic thrombectomy (RTE), thrombolysis.
Thrombectomy is performed in cases where thrombosis does not respond to conservative treatment.
The process of thrombectomy
Preparation
A standard set of diagnostic tests is prescribed: clinical and biochemical blood tests, general urine analysis, coagulogram, hemostasis, blood group and Rh factor test, fluorography.
Thrombectomy procedure
The intervention is performed under local anesthesia. A physiological saline solution is injected into the damaged vessel through a small incision. The thrombus is sucked out using a syringe.
Rehabilitation period
No hospitalization is required after the thrombectomy operation. After the procedure, the patient can return to his or her normal lifestyle. The wound heals within a week. Prescribed drugs to stimulate venous tone.
Indications
Absolute and relative indications are:
- non-occlusive or complicated thrombosis;
- duration of the disease is no more than seven days;
- inability to undergo appropriate therapy (pregnancy, failure of conservative treatment).
Contraindications
This method is not recommended if:
- the disease lasts from 10-12 days;
- anticoagulant therapy is contraindicated for the patient;
- exhaustion and terminal condition.
The methodology should not be used in elderly patients, as well as in people who have recently undergone surgery.
Complications
The following consequences may occur after the procedure:
- bleeding;
- acute thrombosis of arteries and vascular prostheses;
- heart failure (if patients previously had heart problems);
- severe pain at the site of surgery.
