Phenol peeling is a cosmetic procedure based on the effect of a phenol composition on the skin.

General information

The solution, along with the main component, also includes propylene glycol, glycerin, oils, and distilled water.

Depending on the concentration of phenol, the following types are distinguished peelings:

  • superficial (3%);
  • medium (25%);
  • deep (35%) – performed only after a full medical examination of all internal organs.

Procedure

Preparation

As part of the preparation, the patient undergoes a course of treatment for herpes infection.

Phenol peeling

Before applying the active substance, degreasing and alcohol treatment are performed. The solution is applied layer by layer, which is neutralized using a special film mask. The therapy is carried out in a hospital setting for 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Depending on the depth of the impact, local or general anesthesia is used.

Rehabilitation period

Burn wounds are the most unpleasant in the context of the intensity of the pain syndrome. In order to prevent infection, a prophylactic course of antibiotics is prescribed. On the third day, the doctor must remove the film of dead cells. During this period, any contact of the tissue surface with water is prohibited.

After 10 days, vulnerable, sensitive young skin will appear. Redness may remain for up to two months.

Until complete recovery, it is recommended to avoid ultraviolet rays and in the future use only creams with UV filters.

Sunbathing is not recommended, since peeled areas of the skin are very susceptible to the risk of developing cancer.

Indications

The technique is prescribed in the presence of:

  • deep wrinkles, folds, other age-related changes;
  • hyperpigmentation;
  • severe acne.

Contraindications

Therapy is not recommended in the case of:

  • age restrictions: under 18 and over 60 years;
  • individual intolerance to the components of the solution;
  • severe and chronic pathologies of internal organs;
  • high temperature, colds;
  • mental illnesses;
  • infectious fungal diseases;
  • diabetes mellitus;
  • pathologies of the liver, heart, thyroid gland;
  • burns and injuries of the presumed treatment area.

Complications

Possible complications:

  • chemical burn of the skin that has been treated with the composition (the formation of cicatricial changes, whiteheads, other allergic skin reactions is possible);
  • phenol toxicity for the body as a whole (those most susceptible to its action liver, heart and kidneys).
