Selective phototherapy. Prices, reviews, ratings
General information
Selective phototherapy for psoriasis gives excellent results. Therapy can be based on the use of ultraviolet rays of type A and B. The difference between them is only in the length of the beam. The number of sessions should not exceed 5 times a week. The minimum radiation dose for each session is determined by a specialist.
The effect of UV rays helps to reduce DNA synthesis, skin cell proliferation and stabilize the immune system. They also help to reduce inflammatory processes in the upper and deep layers of the epidermis.
Phototherapy can be used even with monotherapy. However, in this case, it is necessary to use external drugs that have a softening and moisturizing effect. Light keratolytic agents will not be superfluous either.
Procedure
Preparation
First, the doctor studies the patient's medical history and examines the affected areas. In general, a blood test and histology are prescribed. The specialist also prescribes other studies that help determine the appropriateness of using such therapy on the affected areas.
Before the session, you must not use cosmetics, drink alcohol, or smoke. Your doctor will provide individual recommendations.
The process of selective phototherapy
Selective phototherapy can be performed with or without determining the minimum toxic dose. The appointment depends on the doctor. The session is carried out using a fluorescent lamp, which is installed in a special booth.
In general, the lamp is placed in a vertical position, so the patient undergoes the procedure in a "standing" position. If the lamp is placed horizontally, the "lying" position is used.
An ultraviolet comb is used to affect the skin of the hand, foot, or head area. It has a special comb that allows the rays to penetrate the affected area even through the hair. The comb is made of plastic and does not absorb the rays. The comb is also used for hard-to-reach areas: the groin and armpit area, the anogenital area.
Rehabilitation period
After irradiation, the patient may feel slight itching and dryness of the damaged areas. In these cases, moisturizing creams and ointments are used as prescribed by a dermatologist.
During the treatment period, you cannot visit the pool or take hot baths.
