General information
There are two types of enucleation:
- transurethral enucleation with a bipolar loop;
- laser enucleation.
Transurethral enucleation of the prostate gland with a bipolar loop is a method of performing an operation that allows removing a large prostate adenoma.
Transurethral enucleation of the prostate gland with a bipolar loop is performed in the following cases:
- the volume of the prostate adenoma is 90-250 cm3;
- there is a risk of bleeding (coagulopathy, hypertension);
- the presence of concomitant pathology from the bronchopulmonary and cardiovascular systems;
- if the patient is obese, when it is difficult to perform an open operation;
- if the patient has a pacemaker.
Laser enucleation involves performing an operation using a laser.
After laser enucleation, the obtained tissue fragments are sent for examination and exclusion of prostate cancer.

Preparation for enucleation includes the following activities:
- general examination of the patient;
- study of anamnesis data;
- identification of possible contraindications to such an operation.
Process of enucleation
The essence of transurethral enucleation of the prostate involves "cold" enucleation of hyperplastic tissue within the surgical capsule of the prostate adenoma. This operation reduces the risk of intraoperative bleeding. Laser enucleation of the prostate adenoma is performed as follows: the prostate tissue (adenoma) is separated from the surrounding tissue using a laser, then divided into fragments and moved into the bladder. Then the prostate adenoma is crushed and removed using a special instrument (morcellator).
Rehabilitation period
After enucleation, if pain occurs, the doctor prescribes painkillers.
Indications
Enucleation is indicated for all men of any age.
Contraindications
Enucleation is contraindicated for patients with acute and severe inflammatory diseases.
Complications
The following complications may occur after surgery:
- bleeding;
- problems with erection;
- voluntary urination;
- development of hemolysis.
