MRI of the bile ducts with contrast
In order to exclude or confirm the presence of oncologic formations and changes in the structure of the object under study, intravenous administration of a contrast agent is prescribed immediately before magnetic resonance imaging. This makes it possible to maximally visualize the image and conduct accurate diagnostics.

- the presence of stones in the gallbladder and its ducts;
- damage of various nature to the biliary tract;
- suspicion of pathologies in the structure of the area being examined;
- examinations before surgery;
- the presence of neoplasms in the biliary tract.
Contraindications to MRI
Even taking into account the safety of this procedure, there are a number of limitations:
- pregnancy;
- the presence of pacemakers, electronic devices, metal foreign objects in the patient's body;
- allergy to iodine or renal failure (in case of using contrast);
- inability to remain still during the examination.
Preparation
In any case, this diagnostic is carried out on an empty stomach. Before the examination, the patient removes all metal objects and jewelry. It is necessary to warn the doctor about the presence of chronic diseases and allergic reactions to drugs.
