If all goes well, by the end of three months the baby pleases you with a smile, studies his hands, brings them close to his eyes, wiggles his fingers. He can already distinguish crumbs 1 mm in size - his visual acuity has increased. He reaches for a hanging toy, tries to grab it, but so far misses. His abilities are actively progressing. Lying on his tummy, the little one holds his head up much longer, gets used to playing in this position. If you put a mirror in front of him, you will see how he enjoys looking at himself.
I am learning about the world: the relationship between child development at the stage of 4-6 months and the necessary game attributes
Playing with the baby has become much more interesting and meaningful. He recognizes his toys with a smile, has become more active, participates in entertainment with adults, puts everything in his mouth, since teeth are starting to erupt. If you take the fidget under the arms for a short time, “put” him on his feet, then he tries to “dance” on his toes - he is preparing to be able to stand independently.
At five months, the baby firmly rests on his palms in a lying position, actively turns from side to side, from his back to his stomach. The time has come when it is absolutely forbidden to leave him unattended on the bed or sofa - the risk of injury from falling from a height increases. It is time to transfer the baby to the playpen or let him out on the floor, having previously covered a small area with a blanket, thick bedding.
Offer your baby more complex options for independent pastime. In the period of 4-6 months, he learns information about the shape, color, size of surrounding things, monitors their changes. The toddler already notices the spatial relationship between objects. He likes to play with his own legs, lifting them up. Six-month-old babies are called "Vanka-vstanki" because they try to sit up by grabbing their mother's fingers.
Age 4-6 months:
- joins hands along the midline of the body;
- sees distant objects;
- carefully watches adults' movements around the room;
- listens to the source of a sound coming from the side;
- holds his head well in a lying position and vertically in the arms of adults;
- confidently shakes a rattle;
- grabs everything within reach;
- imitates adults (coos, babbles).
Don't worry if your baby is not sitting at six months. This date is conditional. There cannot be the same standards for all children. But still, if by five months the child does not stop crying when he hears his mother singing, a melody playing, by six months he rolls over poorly, holds his head uncertainly when he is lifted from a lying position, by seven months he does not “dance”, does not try to reach for a toy, then this is a reason to show him to a specialist to exclude neurological problems.
Educational toys for children 4-6 months
- Toys with a mirror surface. Looking at his reflection, the baby improves cognitive abilities, vision, and gets pleasure from it.
- A rag ball with a bell inside. Thanks to its soft texture, it is more convenient to grasp it with the palm of the hand, hold it in your hand, throw it. Manipulating the ball improves hand-eye coordination and stimulates hearing.
- Beads. Develops the sense of touch and fine motor skills. Bring the beads to the baby, let him reach for them and grab them. Shake them, pull them towards you, check if the baby has grasped them firmly, allow him to finger the beads and examine them in your presence. Make educational toys with your own hands, for example, sling beads - a great option on the road or when mom is busy with household chores.
All toys containing small parts (rattles, beads, etc.) should be diligently tested for strength. Getting foreign bodies into the mouth and nose of a child is fraught with serious consequences.
- Musical instruments (drum, flute, xylophone, rattles). Thanks to such game attributes, the baby learns to find and recognize the source of sound located in different corners of the room. It is advisable to use instruments with different frequencies, volumes, and melody.
- Silicone teether. The baby is constantly pulling something into his mouth, sometimes his gums itch a lot - preparations are underway for the appearance of the first teeth. Therefore, toys that can be chewed will not go unnoticed. Cool the teether in the refrigerator, then the unpleasant sensation of itching in the gums will decrease a little.
- Musical wind-up toys. It is good if they move, the baby carefully watches the movement, listens to the melody, and generally actively responds to the entertainment.
- Play center. It can be either a soft mat with arches or a plastic structure located above the child. Closer to six months, the second option is preferable, since the pendants on this device are higher than on the mat, it is equipped with musical accompaniment, various "smart" details on the sides. By pushing the hanging figure, the child will hear a melody, and attempts to get the out of reach pendant stimulate the abdominal muscles to be able to stand up. This kind of fun will be interesting until the age of one.
- Sensory devices. These can be cubes, animals, pyramids with a large number of small cloth, oilcloth, plastic parts. Usually they are filled with small balls inside and have a squeaker. It is interesting to rattle them, holding them in your hand, persistently pressing the sound button, listening to the noise made. The baby clearly enjoys examining, sorting through the wings, antennae of animals, touching the rough, smooth, rustling sides of the cube.
To prevent toys from getting boring, periodically hide them for 2-3 days. Leave no more than 5-6 pieces for daily fun, then the child will be completely absorbed in them.
The figures of the first article of the series "Educational toys for a child under one year" do not fade into the background. The baby is already entertained by them on his own, examines them, so it is too early to hide:
- mobile;
- rattles, bells;
- rag bags with different contents;
- tumbler;
- spinning top;
- plush animals, squeaky cubes;
- rag bracelets with bells.
These children's educational toys enjoy increased attention of the toddler. His movements have become more confident, the game brings new emotions, knowledge, skills. Make sure that the mobile hangs at a safe distance, because the baby can easily grab it and throw it on himself. If the rattle has become too small, then replace it with an option with another leg the width of an adult's finger. It is important that the baby takes all the attributes correctly, placing four fingers on one side and the fifth (big) on the other.
