But the concepts of beauty are much deeper. Most often, they are dictated by instincts. Thus, men find women with pronounced curves more attractive. The sexuality of these sensual curves in the perception of men is dictated by the instinctive care for offspring: the ideal proportional ratio of the waist to the hips is 0.7 to 1 (with these proportions, it is easiest and safest for a woman to give birth). Proportionate, beautiful breasts are also an attribute of sexuality, since thanks to them the child is fed. Some scientists argue that even the beauty of long, slender legs is dictated by instincts - the longer and stronger a woman's legs are, the fewer steps a woman will have to take when walking, which means she will be less tired.
But women's preferences in terms of male attractiveness also have an instinctive support. Thus, women prefer tall men with developed muscles, because, firstly, this means that the man is strong and will be a good provider and protector, and secondly, his children will inherit his health, will be strong and viable.
The sexual instinct is the basic concept of beauty, and this instinct itself, in turn, contains deep reactions that contribute to better human survival.
The variability of concepts of beauty and the influence of fashion on them
However, beauty is not only a concept of physical perfection, which means strong and indestructible health. Beauty is also a deeply social concept. And the opinion of what is beautiful in a person's appearance has changed throughout the history of mankind. The formula of beauty is not static: it is subject to the influence of fashion, public opinion, and cultural values.
For example, in Ancient Egypt, women of the aristocratic class had their skulls artificially stretched (even Queen Nefertiti was subjected to such influences). And in China, for centuries, girls' feet were wrapped, preventing their growth and causing various bone deformations (it was believed that the smaller a woman's foot, the more beautiful it is).
However, it is not worth diving so far into the abyss of centuries - in the middle of the 20th century there was a surprising and unnatural surge of fashion for skinny, expressionless girls, whose image is extremely distant from a healthy woman capable of bearing children. Society imposes many concepts of beauty, so many immature people, mainly teenagers, fall under the influence of these false ideals. They try to get closer to imposed standards, destroying natural, organic beauty. One of such aspirations is painful thinness, which some girls strive for in order to get closer to their ideal. Sometimes this desire develops into a real mania, in the fight against which the help of a nutritionist will have to be combined with consultations with a psychotherapist. At the same time, sometimes girls manage to cause significant harm to their health: damage the endocrine, immune systems, gastrointestinal tract and generally disable the body.
Fortunately, the fashion for thin girls who look like puppets has passed. Gradually, society returned to the value of natural sensual female beauty, and the desire for painful thinness is increasingly condemned, not only by doctors, but also by men.
But a new danger has arisen. The fact is that modern cosmetology offers a very extensive arsenal of ways to create the appearance of beauty. From the abundance of makeup products to plastic surgery, a modern person has a very rich choice of options for correcting their own appearance. Most often, if you approach this matter wisely, you can create a harmonious image that combines instinctive concepts of beauty (and therefore health) and an individual image that emphasizes personality. But sometimes there is either too much or simply an illiterate use of these opportunities, and this is also a health hazard.
How to derive your own beauty formula
Despite the fact that beauty is inextricably linked with physical health, the perception of beauty itself is individual, and therefore has a direct relationship to psychology. The main thing in deriving your own beauty formula is to adhere to the basic rules aimed at correct perception:
- Rule No. 1 - beauty is always strictly individual. Even if there is a certain standard of beauty, you should not try to imitate it, since you will not be able to duplicate someone else's individuality.
- Rule #2 - you should remember that beauty is an expression of health. Instead of exhausting diets, it is better to make an appointment with a nutritionist who will help you develop your own individual diet. Moderate exercise, skin and hair care, caring for your psychological state - all this invariably affects beauty, is part of it.
- Rule #3 - you cannot abuse methods of strict correction of appearance, be it cosmetic procedures or plastic surgery. The body is subject to severe wear and tear with each abrupt intervention in its work. And this will also affect beauty over time, leading to rapid aging.
- Rule #4 - it is better to achieve the "golden section" of facial features with the help of makeup, favorably emphasizing the depth of the eyes, the shape of the lips. Trying to make your face proportional with facelifts or surgery is dangerous not only for your health, but also for your beauty.
- Rule #5 – before you start seriously working on your appearance, you should undergo a body diagnostic test using a blood test, MRI, consultation with a therapist and other doctors.
But the main thing to remember is that beauty is work on yourself, which is designed not only to improve your health, but also to help express your individuality.
