Gamma-interferon is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 20-25 kDa.
General Information
There are several gamma-interferon types (gamma 1a, gamma 2a), differing in amino acid sequences at positions 1 and 9. It’s produced from stimulated human T-lymphocytes. Modern synthesis uses recombinant DNA and bacterial human cells.
Gamma-interferon has antiviral, antitumor, and immunomodulatory effects.
It enhances histocompatibility complex class I and II antigens, boosts macrophage and natural killer cell activation, reduces B-cell subpopulation expression, and stimulates B-cell growth and differentiation.
Incorrect gamma-interferon levels may require a medical drug, potentially causing side effects: chills, fever, headaches, allergies, neutropenia, elevated liver transaminases, flu-like syndrome, fatigue, weight loss, alopecia, itching, nausea.
