IgG Antibodies to Tissue Transglutaminase is a clinical-laboratory test for diagnosing celiac disease.
General Information
This test measures IgG immunoglobulin levels in blood serum relative to tissue transglutaminase enzyme. Celiac disease (gluten enteropathy) disrupts the digestive tract, with gliadin damaging small intestine villi, impairing digestion and risking systemic contamination.
Gliadin enters via cereals: rye, wheat, oats, barley.
This hereditary condition often appears in young children (6 months-2 years).
Main symptoms:
- Mild anemia;
- Dehydration;
- General malaise.
Diarrhea is absent.
In severe cases, the entire small intestine is affected, causing:
- Water-electrolyte imbalance;
- Anemia;
- Acidosis;
- Dehydration;
- Growth delay.
Treatment involves a gliadin-free diet prescribed by a physician.
Indications for IgG Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase Testing
Gliadin presence causes intestinal mucosal disorders and inflammation.
At-risk groups include those with isolated IgA deficiency.
Indications also include:
- Dermatitis (atopic, herpetiform);
- Angular cheilitis;
- Periodic vomiting;
- Abdominal pain;
- Diarrhea;
- Anemia;
- Epilepsy;
- Vitamin deficiencies.

No special preparation is needed. Last meal 8-12 hours prior; no smoking 30 minutes before. Avoid tea, coffee, juice; plain water is permitted.
Antibody presence indicates gluten disease or reduced antibody titers.
